Aesop ION draws from Orchard Road’s past, where sleepy nutmeg orchards once grew.

Like nutmeg drying racks that had porous metal trays supported by chunky timber frames, the relationship is reversed to have folded steel sheets as a vertical structure to hold slim teak shelves that display Aesop’s range of formulations.

Simple materials speak through a language of curves at Aesop ION.

Utilising galvanised steel and unvarnished timber from shelving to basins, they are elevated beyond their humble origins by echoing the organic forms of nature. A curved plan seamlessly integrates various parts of the experience, guiding visitors through an effortless flow of space.

The unassuming and subtle palette of Aesop ION.

Complimenting the steel and timber that anchored our design is a backdrop of earth tones, contributed through the use of artisanal sand concrete on various surfaces. Together with the curved geometry, the strong edges of the space are dissolved to instil a sense of quietude.

Reinterpreting and transforming the humble tin sheet at Aesop 1 Utama.

Vertically, tin sheets are used as formwork to cast concrete walls; complimented by the service counters expressed as simple blocks of concrete. Horizontally, densely packed sheets of the corrugated metal form a range of elements: from product display shelves, a sturdy plinth for seating, to weighty platforms for visual merchandising.

Letting the material take center stage at Aesop 1 Utama.

With a simple symmetrical layout, the store is built around two expressions of the corrugated tin: a vertical planar use that expresses its undulating surface, another a horizontally stacked cross-sectional approach that draws focus to its mass and edge profile.

Aesop 1 Utama is an abstraction of local vernacular tin roofs.

Ubiquitous throughout Malaysia from large cities to Kampungs, the corrugated “tin” roof sheet was adapted in inventive ways throughout the space, without losing their essential character and materiality. An homage to tin, it reflects the Selangor region’s rich history in tin mining.

Louvres, reminiscent of classroom windows, as a central theme.

A linear design language inspired by louvres connect the spaces and branding materials. In the guest rooms, louvres segregate spaces to maintain privacy while allowing cross-ventilation and natural light to flood the rooms. From timber variations to the terracotta red that echoes the precinct's traditional palette, it all comes together to reflect a nostalgic nod to the past.

以教室百叶窗为灵感的主题设计。

百叶窗元素贯穿空间与品牌设计，形成线性语言。客房内，百叶窗隔开不同区域，在保持私密性的同时，又能促进空气流通，让自然光洒满房间。从不同木质材质到呼应区域传统色调的赤陶红，一切设计都怀揣着对过去的怀旧致意。
