The nickname feature for PayNow retail users will be discontinued on Jun 6 to strengthen protection against impersonation scams, the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS) said on Wednesday (Apr 29).

All display names will be automatically updated to reflect "selected letters of a retail payee's registered account name with their financial institution" during PayNow transfers to safeguard customer privacy.

"This approach balances the use of real names as a safeguard against account impersonation, while being mindful of privacy considerations," said ABS.

Yes, we have truly come to the end of an era for Asus smartphones, and no, this time it isn’t a rumour or mere speculation — Asus Chairman Jonney Shih has confirmed that the company will no longer expand its smartphone lineup, according to a post by Gizmochina.

In practical terms, this signals the end of new Asus smartphones altogether. The recently launched Zenfone 12 Ultra and the ROG Phone 9 series will stand as the company’s final smartphone releases, marking the conclusion of Asus’ journey in the mobile space.

For existing Asus smartphone users, there’s no cause for concern. Shih has assured customers that after-sales support and service commitments will continue as promised for current devices.

Moving forward, Asus plans to redirect its efforts toward AI-driven hardware. The company will focus on developing intelligent systems such as smart machines, robotics, and edge computing devices designed to operate with minimal human intervention.
