"We have the best accounting software for your business!"

You'll hear a version of this from pretty much every vendor out there. And honestly — none of them are lying exactly, but none of them is being fully straight with you either. No salesperson is ever going to say "ours is actually the second-best option, go check out our competitor first."

The real answer: there's no single "best" accounting software. There's only the one that fits your business.

Before you shop, get clear on a few things:
- Do you need complex inventory tracking (BOM, batch numbers, expiry dates) or just the basics?
- How many users, and are they all in Singapore or spread across regions?
- What's your actual budget — upfront and ongoing?
- Does the software have any hidden numeric limits that could trip you up later?

Can't find the Item Details section on your QuickBooks Online Bill page? 🔍

It hasn't disappeared — it just needs to be switched on.

Go to Gear → Account and Settings → Expenses, and tick "Show item table on expense and purchase forms". Save, and you're done.

You'll now be able to record purchases by item, quantity, and price — and QBO will keep your inventory up to date automatically.

QuickBooks users — have you run into this before?

You update the Location on a bill in QBO, reprint your reports… and the Bank Transaction Report still shows the wrong Location.

Here's what's happening: the Bill Payment captures the Location when it's first saved, and it doesn't automatically update when you change the Bill later.

The fix? Open the Pay Bill transaction, untick the Bill, tick it again, and save. That's it!

Did you know? When you print a customer statement in Reckon Accounts (QuickBooks Asia), the option you choose makes a big difference.

🔹 All Open Transactions → shows only unpaid invoices today
🔹 Statement Period → shows all transactions in a date range (paid + unpaid)

If your customer says their statement looks “wrong,” it’s often just a matter of choosing the right option.

Attention QuickBooks Online Users!

Big changes coming to how you track transactions in QuickBooks!
Intuit is phasing out the Tags feature:
- May 2025: No more new tags
- May 2028: Complete removal

Why should you care?

If you use tags to track multiple categories per transaction (like tracking both "Christmas Sales" AND "Salesperson Grace" on the same invoice), you need to act.

Good news: Custom Fields are the replacement and they're actually more powerful!
- Dropdown menus
- Better organisation
- Up to 100 options per field

Singapore businesses: No official timeline for us yet, but it's coming. Better to prepare now than scramble later!

What to do:
- Check how you currently use tags
- Plan your custom field setup
- Start the transition on new transactions
