👉 How do you feel about your company's current sustainability efforts?
👉 What actions do you want to see stepped-up?
📣 Let your ideas be heard and create change!
Seeing that sustainability initiatives in the workplace are still a long way from where they should be, we decided to conduct a survey (link in bio!) where you can share which activities you want to bring to life.
Our goal is to then share results from this survey with companies around the globe to encourage them to rethink their sustainability efforts and take your ideas and requests into consideration ♻️
The questionnaire takes 2-3min to complete. We’d be really thankful if you could take the time and also help spread the word while you’re at it 😊🙏

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, zombie appliances and electronics (appliances that are plugged in but not being used) account for 10% of energy used in an average home 🤯

Applied to all homes in the U.S., this is enough energy to power 26 power plants at roughly 56 kWh per year…

The amount of energy wasted by zombie plugs is pretty scary - but is something that’s easy to fix 💪

Use powerstrips in order to turn off all your unused devices (printers, TVs, phone chargers, laptops) in one easy step, and unplug as many appliances as you can while not in use to decrease the zombie energy drain at home! 🧟

“Is your money being used to fund climate change?”

We sat down with Zak Gottlieb of the incredible new non-profit bank.green, the website that lets you see if your bank is helping fight or fund fossil fuels and their list of ethical banks that take climate action seriously.

Divesting from fossil fuels is critical in order to meet the terms of the Paris Agreement. Holding corporations accountable by using your voice and your spending power can help create the global reckoning we need to reverse climate change.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Naomi Klein’s seminal ‘This Changes Everything’ on climate change, corporate power, and the societal changes we need to fight climate change, now is the time!

Her work on climate change from both a micro and macro viewpoint is groundbreaking and backed with decades of scientific research on climate change and the ways we can fight it— hello renewables!

In a recent statement, Amazon revealed their firm's emissions recently grew by just under 20% 😳

Making this data public was pushed for by employees, and the firm is now investigating ways to cut emissions - such as electrifying their delivery fleets.

We can (and should!) continue to use our power as employees and consumers to add pressure on corporations to make the big changes we need to see.

🚥Red light for beef: Britain is piloting a new traffic light system to show the environmental impact of food and drink items right on the packaging, in a similar theme to nutritional information.

🛢️President Biden is publicly backing the small coastal town of South Portland which recently passed an ordinance that would block the use of a World War 2-era oil pipeline that exports Canadian crude oil from Maine to Montreal refineries.

⚖️ Environmental damage could become an international crime under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. Activists and legal scholars are fighting to ensure ‘ecocide’, which is defined as “unlawful or wanton acts committed with knowledge that there is a substantial likelihood of severe and either widespread or long-term damage to the environment being caused by those acts,” an international and prosecutable crime.

So is ALL meat bad for the planet?

We’ve crunched the numbers and when it comes to emissions, the type of meat you eat makes a big difference!

We’ve talked length about the high emissions and various bad effects that high beef consumption has on the planet, but lamb is an even higher emitter.

However there’s a big drop after those two meats. Did you know that cheese has a higher carbon footprint than chicken or turkey or canned tuna?

A plant based diet will have the most impact on your emissions (and the planet’s health) but if you can’t quit meat completely, eliminating or minimalising beef and lamb in your diet makes a massive difference!

If your workplace offered you a way to reduce your emissions, would you take them up on it?

Capture recently ran a poll asking that question over the past week, finding a whopping 100% of respondents stating that they would indeed like help from their employer in reducing emissions from daily life.

But there’s a gap between what employees are looking for today, and what’s offered - with 46% of respondents from another Capture survey stating that their workplace does not provide any sustainability initiatives.

Let’s take these results with a grain of salt and assume that our community is more likely to work for a company prioritising sustainability… having close to half report no sustainability engagement services is a surprise!

At Capture, we’re working to help companies and organisations mobilise a planet friendly workforce; supporting employees in tracking, reducing and offsetting emissions. Is your workplace engaging you in sustainability initiatives or emissions reductions efforts? Share you experience in the comments! ⬇️
