Top movers alert: index put warrants lead today's decline; Nikkei225 puts jump as much as 82%

As of the morning close at 12PM, Macquarie's index put warrants tracking the Nikkei225, Hang Seng Index and Nasdaq-100 are amongst the top warrant gainers with gains of up to 82% while index calls are down as much as 60% given today's broad market sell off

🚨Notably, the Nikkei225 is leading the Asian sell off, tumbling 4.7% to 64,970 as of 111PM, and had closed at the session low of 64,240 at 12PM

✴Nikkei put warrant WZTW (https://macq.co/6187BHyTsc) which is up 49% to SGD 0.142 as of 111PM, is seeing investors sell back 530K warrants

The Asian sell off follows the overnight US market fall ass three headwinds converge

3⃣Namely, the unwinding of the global AI trade, the overnight US CPI which was higher than expected which has revived odds of a US Fed rate hike this month and hawkish Bank of Japan comments by board member Koeda who warned this morning about being "overly cautious" on rate hikes

🇭🇰The Hang Seng Index Oct futures which is trading 1.2% to 24,030 as of 115PM has closed at 23,959 - below the psychological 24,000 level

Investors are buying 1M units of HSI call warrant LVQW (https://macq.co/6180BHyTsm) which is down 18% to SGD 0.041 , while 770K units of HSI put ZH5W (https://macq.co/6182BHyTso) arre being sold back as the warrant trades 18% higher to SGD 0.052

The HSI's relative outperformance suggests that it is absorbing the global inflationary shock and global AI selloff better than most

Investors keen to trade the moves in Asian indices today can consider the below trending warrants

Alex Low: a powerful rebound ahead for Sembcorp Industries?

💎While the Singapore stock market has been under pressure during October's correction, Sembcorp Industries (U96) has shown encouraging resilience.

👨‍🏫Veteran trader Alex Low believes Sembcorp's biggest catalyst is a potential earnings recovery in 2H2026, driven by the completed Alinta Energy acquisition, improving Singapore power operations and a possible India IPO.

❓With management expecting 2H2026 earnings to exceed 1H2026, Alex wonders if this is the beginning of a stronger recovery: https://macq.co/6188BHyEvo

Jardine Matheson – portfolio acquisition, raised guidance

Jardine Matheson (JM) is one of the worst performing index stocks on the Straits Times Index with a year-to-date return of -17.5%

📢Yesterday’s announcement of the Gammon Construction acquisition together with a guidance upgrade, marks the most significant positive catalyst that the stock has seen in recent months

💫JM was one of yesterday’s standout STI index stocks, trading up as much as 2.3% intraday

✳Consequently, one of the JM call warrants NMNW made it to the top gainers table yesterday for a 10% gain, 9 times more than JM’s+1.1% price increase at day end, while trending JM call warrant LVSW gained 4.4%

There are no put warrants available over JM

Macquarie Research (MQ) published a research report yesterday with their comments on the Gammon Construction acquisition as well as the upgraded guidance

Nikkei225 - put warrants dominate top gainers chart as index loses 2.7% as AI trade comes under pressure

The Nikkei225 Dec futures is currently down 2.7% to 67,610 as of 908AM, dragged by chipmakers as AI trades come under pressure ahead of earnings season, as well as oil-driven inflation fears

👀Many will be looking at TSMC's earnings announcement this Thursday as an indicator of how tech companies' latest earnings season will turn out

⬅Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that foreign investors sold a record 2.24 trillion yen of Japanese equity futures in the week ended 2 October, signalling sustained institutional selling pressure

The Nikkei225 futures is now trading just 1% above the psychological support of 67,000

🔝Following today's index drop of 2.3% as of 916AM, Macquarie's Nikkei put warrants are dominating the top warrant gainers chart with gains between 7% to 18.1%, depending on the warrants' effective gearing levels

Specifically, put warrant WZTW which is up 14.1% to SGD 0.105, is seeing holders exit from 990K warrants

✳✴Investors keen to trade the Nikkei225 index at current levels may wish to consider trending call warrant QZQW (https://macq.co/6187BHDQ53) and trending put warrant VT9W (https://macq.co/6188BHDQ5O)

Top movers alert: UOB - selloff extends while OCBC stabilises

Yesterday, UOB fell 5.2%, its worst day since April 2025

The stock is down another 1.8% this morning to fall below the psychological $40 level to $39.51, taking its week-to-date loss to 9%

Comparatively, OCBC which is also down 9% week-to-date had gapped up 1.7% this morning after enduring a 10.1% carnage over the past two days

UOB's sell-off in the past three days is a drastic reversal from its performance earlier this week where the stock hit a new one-month high of $43.72 on Tuesday

🚨The bank remain the biggest underperformer in the Singapore banking sector on a year to date (YTD) basis, rising just 12.7% - below the STI's +15.8% YTD return - as well as DBS' +29.4% and OCBC's +46.2% YTD gains

👀Some of the key levels to watch in UOB from here include the stock's 200 day moving average at $39.10 and the lower Bollinger band (suggesting extreme overselling) of $37.92

❗The catalysts behind this week's sell-off in the banks stems from the macro backdrop of rising yields which may lead to higher marked to market losses on trading books, a hit to capital market activity, and a net interest margin contraction, according to analysts

Thus, one may be expecting a potential rebound should yields stabilise or pull back from the current 5.3% level, with UOB potentially benefitting the most after being the most oversold of the three local banks on a relative basis

Investors keen to trade the moves in the Singapore bank shares can consider the below trending warrants:

✳DBS call IJMW: https://macq.co/6188BGf4Ce
✴DBS put YAZW: https://macq.co/6181BGf4C9

Newly listed warrants to trade this week's strong Nikkei225 moves

💫The Nikkei225 has delivered one of the strongest major index performances globally over the past year, up +49.9% on a total return basis

📈The index traded above the 70,000 level to this week on Tuesday, sitting roughly 3% below its all time record high of 72,832 on 22 June 2026

💨Recent index catalysts include this week's global AI and semiconductor rally, the yen's weakness past 158 against the USD which led Japan's currency official to warn against further depreciation and finally, the Bank of Japan rate hike announcement on 30 October where the market is still largely expecting the Japanese Central Bank to hold rates steady

Meanwhile, the rising Japanese government bond yields approached 2% this week - the highest level since 1995 while the 10-year yield is currently trading above 3%, implying that the market is expecting the Bank of Japan to tighten over the longer-term
