TASOS supported Cheng San Community Arts & Cultural Club (CACC) sidewalk astronomy as part of “See Beyond” activity on Saturday 19th Sep 2026 from 5 to 9pm. TASOS President Soh Kim Mun set up a tracking 5 inch Borg refractor as did TASOS Hon Treasurer MooEy. Ridhwan set up a Celestron Nexstar C6 and Albert Tan deployed his giant C8 binoculars. Albert Lim set up a Vixen 80mm refractor on Polarie tripod when TASOS VP Dr Raymond Tan maned our Society’s Celestron C8 telescope. The observation tocused on the Moon since it is Mid Auntumn season. Besides the sky was bright for first 2.5 hours when observations started at 5pm and the only target available was the Moon. The Moon was visible throughout but contrast was low during daylight hoursnand so the craters while visible was not as impressive. However when the sky gets darker into yhe night, the telescopes all produced superb Moon images and revealed so many craters and mountains along the terminator line of the first quarter Moon. MooEy did some unofficial estimate and said that well over 2,000 people who came and view the Moon. President Soh estimates double at 4,000. Many were interested to capture the Moon through our telescopes using their smart phones. Some succeeded but most did not. I allowed many to snap my quarter Moon photo as souvenirs. Many participants were amazed at the Moon they saw through our telescopes and we were glad so many families enjoyed the Moon view tonight. See photos of this Moon viewing activity as part of “Our Neighbourhood GEMS” organised by Cheng San CC posting here to share with everyone- we hope you all like them 👍🙏🏻

One Crescent occulting another:
Lunar Occultation of Venus by Astro Scientific Centre’s customer Akash Anandh.
In India, the sky was still bright at 5:30pm when the occultation started, with the Sun still shining above the western horizon. My eye took a few moments to spot the Moon. It was partly cloudy with high clouds and Venus wasn't visible to the naked eye. But through the telescope, Venus shone bright. Took a few shots before the Moon moved across and hid Venus from our view.
At 6:47, Venus reemerged from behind Luna, shining in all her glory. Unlike earlier, the sky had grown fairly dark.
The Moon at 13% illumination and Venus a little over 25%. Takahashi FS-60Q, 60mm refractor, 600mm FL, Nikon Z6-II at prime focus. Here are both images, before and after. Nice shots 👍🙏🏻

TASOS President Soh, VP Dr Raymond Quek, Hon Treasurer Lim Wei Rong, Joseph Beh, May, Mohd Ridhwan, Jeff and myself supported Friday 21st Aug 26 Observatory session. We set up a 5 inch refractor and a Celestron C8 etc while Meng Hwee from SC setup several Seestars doing imaging so participants can actually view live images built up on several ipads and iphones screens on a table. We interacted with participants and answered their many astronomy questions. The sky overall was reasonably OK although an over 60% illuminated bright Waxing Gibbous Moon was high up in the Sky making the sky bright. Overall we still manage to observe planet Venus earlier in the evening and also many objects such as M6, M7 in Scorpio and M22 in Sagittarius and an impressive the Moon terminator day night line. Overall everyone present enjoyed a good night of astronomy experience. Posting photos from this sesssion here to share and hope you all like them. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi Albert. Hope you are well. We had a solar eclipse in Spain today and I would like to share a couple of photos I took. The last one happened in 1905 but today marks the first of a trilogy. Next one is 2027 and another in 2028. Please feel free to post in the FB group if you wish.
Thanks, Albert…..I used a Canon R5 Mark II with an RF400 f/2.8 lens (1/320, f/3.2, ISO 100).. 👍👍

This Friday evening the 24th of July 2026, a team of 9 from TASOS comprising TASOS committee and members supported Science Centre’s Observatory session. The turnout today was smaller than normal and the sky was quite good and so many had the opportunity also to see a beautiful quarter Moon with great detail. Many craters were visible. TASOS members setup and manned 3 portable telescopes beside the small observatory and assisted with the observatory and astronomy story telling on the ground. Everyone had a really wonderful time tonight. See photos of this activity posted here to share.. 👍🙏🏻🙏🏻

On Friday 17th July 2026, Venus is at 1 o’clock position near to the Crescent Moon. I took the images from left above the Astro Scientific Centre signboard from the Kinetic Garden of the Science Centre and the next photo going clockwise. President Soh KM took the next with the KidsStop sign while TASOS member Tan Bee Ping took the last photo with top of buildings. Nice .. 👍🙏🏻🙏🏻
