Mac’s operating system has allowed using a picture as the folder icon for decades. Plus, you can change the folder background to a different color or image. macOS Tahoe takes things further by introducing additional customization options tailored to the folder icon.

You can now personalize your folders with popular icons (symbols) or emojis. So, if you’ve a folder where you keep just your college PDFs and Word documents, you can add a study emoji to it. In addition to using icons and emojis, macOS Tahoe also lets you change the folder icon color. Therefore, instead of sticking with the familiar blue folder icons, you can now change them to red, orange, yellow, green, gray, purple, blue, or something else. We would like to inform you that Cocktail 19.9 (Tahoe Edition) for users running macOS Tahoe has been released.

Here are the release notes for this version:

• Added ability to reset NVRAM (System > Memory)

NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory) is a type of computer memory that retains its data even when the device is turned off. Unlike regular RAM, which forgets everything when the power is cut, NVRAM keeps small, important system settings safe until the next time you turn your device on. This feature clears all of the firmware variables and custom low-level settings like speaker volume, screen resolution, timezone, and startup disk selection, returning them to default values. It can be used as a harmless fix for minor hardware or system glitches (like audio or display weirdness).

• Major improvements to clearing of applications caches

• Added ability to clear TextEdit caches

• Temporary files created by the Books, Contacts, Find My, Freeform, Home, Maps, Messages, Music, Photos, Siri, TextEdit, and TV apps are now deleted from their container directories when clearing application caches

• Resolved a number of issues discovered in the previous release

Apple Photos app lets you select a bunch of photos & videos and play them as a slideshow with music, so you can view them comfortably like a movie. The slideshow is customizable with music, transition effects, and a custom duration for each image. If the video looks nice, you may want to save it as a video file. Sometimes, an external drive, disk image, or other mounted volume refuses to leave macOS of its own free will. When using macOS, you certainly know if you’ve opened a Pages file or are editing an email. But, below the surface are files that macOS uses that you don’t see all the activity required for background processes, Time Machine backups, Spotlight indexing, and other system needs. When you want to eject a mounted volume, like a volume on an external SSD or hard drive, you can run afoul of macOS’s hidden needs.
