Hello from FOSDEM! 👋
This weekend (31 Jan – 1 Feb 2026), the FOSDEM conference is taking place in Brussels, Belgium. And Markus from our team is there, feel free to say hello if you’re attending and spot him around!

As one of the largest and most influential open-source conferences in the world, FOSDEM is a great opportunity to get up to speed with what’s happening at the bleeding edge of software development and technology. The conference covers a wide range of topics, touching many of the foundational technologies that the internet and our digital society rely on.

Over the course of this intense weekend, more than 300 sessions are held. It’s impossible to summarize them all, but some of the notable trends this year include:
- Agentic AI
- AI and LLMs in the browser
- Self-hosted AI
- Continued adoption of WebAssembly
- Growing momentum around Rust
- Increased interest in the RISC-V CPU architecture

Another clear theme is the rising focus on technologies that help European companies become less dependent on non-European cloud services. For similar reasons, Linux-powered phones are also getting more attention than usual.

Overall, FOSDEM offers a unique yearly opportunity to get a fast, high-quality overview of where things are heading—and what to focus on next. This is essential for continuing to deliver quality for our products and our clients.

The redesign avoid the familiar “postcard” image and embrace a modern approach that respects the history of the site.

Modern, without losing its soul.
