Quick hi-hat panning tip using Reason 14. 🎧

Using an LFO output instead of automation lanes keeps your Reason rack and sequencer clean and organized. This approach avoids cluttering your project while adding a nice bit of extra spice to your mix. Just route the LFO output from a Pulsar directly into the CV input of your closed hat's mix channel.

Want to layer your drum sounds in Redrum without messing with duplicate sequencer or pattern lanes?

Flip the rack around and route the gate output CV from one channel into the gate CV input of another to trigger multiple sounds from a single note. You can even take this a step further by routing that CV signal out to an entirely separate device, like Mimic, to build massive, layered sounds from just one single note event.

Quick sidechaining tip for Reason users. ⛓️

Using CV gate triggers instead of audio routing with splitters keeps your Reason rack clean and organized. This approach avoids messy signal chains and extra utility devices while delivering a precise, reliable sidechain response every time. Simply route the gate CV output from your drum module directly into the sidechain tool’s trigger input.

From The Vault: Extreme Music Production with the Alligator Triple Filter Gate (2012)

Start by adding an M-Class Limiter to keep your output in check, then load up Alligator with its pattern set to 0 and resolution at eighth notes. Smooth out the gated feel using the attack, decay, and release parameters in the amp envelope section. To push it into a much more aggressive and extreme sound, dial in high resonance across the low pass, band pass, and high pass filters.

We’re still using the Alligator in Reason 14! How are you using it in your tracks?

From The Vault: How to add diffusion using The Echo (2012)

Level up your delay effects by adding diffusion to create pleasant, real-world sound imperfections. Turn on diffusion in The Echo and dial up the spread and amount to smear your sound reflections and create a rich, natural stereo field.

Ready to level up your Reason Rack?

Glacius X by DNA Labs is a Rack Extension hybrid wave synthesizer that combines a 6 GB sound library and 1,316 presets with a flexible quad-layer sound engine. The engine uses three X ROM layers alongside a fourth XS user layer that supports live audio capture and custom sample imports.

Each layer features dedicated filters, as well as pitch, pan, and formant shifting parameters. These route into parallel effect channels that include tube saturation, bit-demolishing filters, and gate sequencing. Talk about endless control.

You also get 4 Lexicon-style global impulse reverbs, dual ping-pong delay, and parallel analog compression to polish your patches inside the instrument.

is breaking down the drums behind a PinkPantheress-inspired beat in Reason 14

Drawing in chops from a Dr. Octo Rex loop player, beefing up the sound with the Osmium distortion matrix, and layering in a custom kick, that's a great start. Thanks to Reason 14's new tempo match feature, adding a shaking tambourine sample automatically jumps it from 120 BPM to 155 BPM. Plus duplicating it is a breeze with the new looped clips feature.
