CooperVision's Southampton site makes around 920,000 contact lenses a day in a cleanroom. When customer demand grew, engineering leadership couldn't just add more machines. There was nowhere left to put them.
"We had run out of space to install new platforms. We had to think differently."
â Engineering Leadership, CooperVision UK
The team had been tracking OEE on spreadsheets, updated by hand and often days behind the shop floor. By the time a pattern showed up in the numbers, it was already history: hard to trace, harder to act on.
They found the extra capacity in the lines they already had. With live data from Maintmaster OEE, recurring breakdowns and inconsistent changeovers, long suspected but never confirmed, became visible as they happened. Teams could compare shifts, standardise changeovers, and see the effect of a fix the same day.
The result: unplanned downtime down 68%, output up 29%, on the same equipment and the same footprint.
If your OEE numbers arrive too late to change anything, the constraint usually isn't the shop floor. It's the data.
