The thinking, reflective human being.

There is a lot of discussion right now about the risks of AI. There is even talk that AI could eradicate humans. Here, the idea is that it is the intelligence that rules the world, which is currently human, not because we are the strongest but the smartest.

This is where it goes wrong, AI is an expansion of our "system 1" but we humans also have a "system 2" (Khaneman etc.) What we need is to ensure that we also connect our "system 2" in our decisions.

This year's edition of the R2B Summit was a full-day eventon 4 October 2023 R2B Summit is a unique meeting place to exchange experiences and share perspectives to create new innovations and business opportunities together. The programme is aimed at those in a senior position with responsibility for innovation, research and development in a company or organisation and those who represent a research project on IVA's 100 list in 2023, .
All 79 research projects selected for the 100 list 2023 have great potential to generate benefits through, for example, industrial commercialisation. Many of these research projects had the opportunity to present during the day and one of these was us, Prefernce.

The programme began with an interview with IVA President Marcus Wallenberg and was concluded by Minister for Education Mats Persson with the speech "Utilising research for sustainable growth and Swedish competitiveness".

In between, a packed day of interesting presentations and many opportunities for contact between R2B.

During the day, there will be several opportunities to gain insight into the research projects included in IVA's 100 list 2023. The overall theme of the list is Technology in the service of humanity and this year's participating projects are mainly in the areas of climate change, energy supply, welfare technology, cyber security and crisis preparedness. All 79 research projects selected for the 100 list have great potential to create benefits through, for example, industrial commercialisation, business and method development or societal impact. During the Summit, the research projects are represented by their representatives who seek contact with the business community and the surrounding society regarding the continued development, application and utilisation of their research.

The programme begins with an interview with IVA President Marcus Wallenberg. A panel of investors shares perspectives, connections and experiences of getting involved in research projects. Professor Mathias Uhlén gives a speech; in addition to being one of Sweden's most renowned researchers, he is also a serial entrepreneur. To date, he has started 20 companies, three of which are listed on the stock exchange. Mathias Uhlén is also the brain behind the so-called Protein Atlas, with millions of microscopic images of the human body, all available to the general public via some 15 million web pages.

The Growing Gap

There is a huge amount of money spent on IT projects globally and only a thin 30% goes through as planned.

Why is it so difficult to succeed then? Most of the companies do not have good enough internal resources to control the complexity of an IT development project. It is because their domain insight is superficial, tend to catch the buzzwords and fashionable gadgets, but fail to understand how IT can trigger their development.

IT projects go through the same process of procurement like buying paper for the printers.

And due to the breathtaking pace of development of the IT sector, this gap grows exponentially.

difficult actions of plastic waste.
Reuse of chemical base materials leads to reducing the need of prime raw materials. Currently the mixed, unidentified, coloed, surface
treated polymer waste is typically incinerated in an expensive and not environment friendly process. Pyrolytic technology can reform separated non-utilizable packaging material- or industrial waste into valuable chemical resources and recover other valuable materials.
REDUCE: Instead of the incineration and landfill we can poduce refined mineral oil derivatives for chemical utilization on the base of non-recyclable polymer waste.

Find the abilities you have, e.g. capacity, processes, etc. Determine the realism and structure the process (long story ofc). A problem in a working group arises when different members of the group hold different opinions about the weights for the aspects (perspectives), the probabilities of events and the values of the consequences. Even though an attempt can be made to even out any differences of opinion in order to arrive at one, this requires a great deal of energy and often many valuable ideas fall by the wayside as a result. A modern decision process should deal with such differences of opinion by including them, so that everybody’s opinion is considered, but in a methodical way.
One of the most natural ways is to allow intervals to represent the group’s opinion on each parameter, so that each interval includes all the opinions expressed. Then if you have intervals with some kind of average, often called centre of gravity, then it’s natural to allow the group’s average to form a central point in the interval. In this way all members of the group are included in the decision basis. The more aberrant opinions then end up in the periphery of the interval and the group’s focal point ends up near the interval’s focal point. Then, various compromises with the group’s collective opinion can then be dealt with by using sensitivity analyses. The more central parts of the interval, which encompasses a large part of the group, then receive a more prominent role in the analyses, but all the information is still present.

In this step we will Identify and Frame the decision situation, understanding the context and strategic environment of the problem. Here we should paint the broader picture and describe an optimal solution as we later narrow down facing the reality. Already at this step we can start to document the decision in Helision.

Potential for Improvement.
What potential for improvement is there in the existing decision processes if we structure them?
Would issues become more transparent?
Would the decisions become less dependent on individuals?
Could the basis for decisions be described as more fact based?
These would all be to advantage. Other advantages that often arise are that risks become more visible and can thereby be managed and reduced.
The time required for more structured decisions is often used as an argument to continue working intuitively.
Even though more time is spent on the information basis, the total time for arriving at the decision is often less. If the decision situation changes during the process, which is common, then it’s far easier to realign thinking. This is known as decision dynamics.

This often means that the number of hired consultants grow rapidly as they often have an ability to sell their colleagues Thus the main beneficiary level of the resource pipeline will be the recruitment consultants.
Difficult to control the content, cost and outputs of developments, so the high probability of fail is coded from the beginning

Another way to buy IT services in delimited blocks that are procured at fixed prices. Agile system development is a continuous delivery process. The customers’ role is to feed in domain specific knowledge and to keep control of the process.
The whole development process should be split up to larger cycles: Architecture, Proof Of Concept, Prototype, Minimum Viable Product, Product V1.0 etc.

The development of these blocks is in turn divided into small development blocks "Sprints"
During each "Sprint", the goals, content and cost of the next sprint that the customer orders are determined. The customer gets control over the process
