One of the world’s biggest rebrands has produced a very strange result.

Twitter. now became Tweet. app today after a judge temporarily blocked the startup from using the Twitter name.

But the same judge said X had abandoned its rights to “Tweet” and the old blue bird logo.

So the company appears to have protected one part of its old identity, but not all of it.

The case is still ongoing, but the branding lesson is already interesting: a rebrand does not only decide what you keep. It can decide what you lose.

Would you have expected X to retain every part of the Twitter brand?

Wonderful has raised $550 million at a $5 billion valuation for enterprise AI.

The name is broad and gives the company room to define it.

AIThinkFlow.com, which I own, takes the opposite approach. You can see AI, thinking and workflow before you open the site.

One creates curiosity. The other creates clarity.

For a new business, which would matter more to you?

This is a naming comparison, not a valuation comparison.

Orchestra.ai has reportedly sold for $250,000.

Earlier this year, OrchestraAI.com sold for $1,026.

They were separate sales in different circumstances, so it would be misleading to say one extension is worth 244 times more than the other.

Even so, the contrast is interesting. I normally prefer .com, but Orchestra.ai looks cleaner to me because the extension completes the name.

Which version would you rather build a company on?

Bouncy.com has reportedly sold for $125,000. In 2023, it sold for $36,000.

The price increase is impressive, but what caught my attention was how the latest buyer found it.

According to seller Leo Angelo, they typed Bouncy.com directly into their browser and found the sales page. They were not browsing a marketplace or comparing a long list of names. They already knew what to type.

That is a good reminder that every domain needs a clear landing page. Make it obvious that the name is available and how someone can enquire.

Would you have expected Bouncy.com to reach $125,000?

Next Big Domain is getting a rebuild.

I’ve temporarily taken the website offline while I rebrand and build a new platform where domain owners will be able to advertise their names alongside my own portfolio.

The business is still active and my domains are still available. You can view most of them here:

https://www.dynadot.com/user/next_big_domain

I’ll share more as the new platform develops.

PDC Brands has become Arthēa.

The new name is only six letters, but its website is ArtheaWellness.com, fourteen letters before the dot.

I like the name. It is much more memorable than PDC Brands. But it is a good example of why the domain should be considered before a new name is announced, not afterwards.

Would the longer web address put you off?

Thundr.com sold for $100,000 via Saw.com.

Normally, I am wary of domains that remove a vowel. They can look strong, but people may type the full word first.

Then I looked at where Thundr.com leads. It is being used by a random video chat app called Thundr.

For most buyers, it would be a spelling risk. For that business, it is the exact-match .com.

Would I have valued it at $100,000 on its own? No.

Do I understand why it could be worth that to the right buyer? Yes.

Why.com first launched in 1999 as a guide to the web. The company later went quiet, but the domain has now returned as an AI curiosity engine.

The original idea disappeared, yet the name still makes sense 27 years later.

I think that is the difference between a domain that fits one product and a domain that gives a business room to change.

How many names registered today will age that well?
