How to avoid production mistakes and detect equipment wear in time

Manufacturing errors are expensive, especially for parts that require high precision. A company that produces automotive components has found a way to detect the equipment wear in advance.

The company Antolin has been engaged in the production of ceiling noise insulation elements for cars of world brands since 2013: Volkswagen, Ford Sollers and General Motors. Periodic control of forming surfaces is included in the complex of routine work on monitoring and restoring the wear of technological or production equipment.

Geometry control can be carried out on contact CMMs, but this is a resource-intensive process. Specialists need to measure curved surfaces of machines with a length of more than 2 m with a large number of control points. It takes several days to complete the task and receive reports — this is the time the production line is stopped.

It is more efficient to get a quick and accurate equipment status report with the RangeVision PRO 3D scanner.

Before starting the measurement, a matting spray must be applied to the object to eliminate the effect of glare from reflective surfaces. The use of self-adhesive contrast targets improves the accuracy of scanning and automatic alignment of model fragments when digitizing objects with a homogeneous surface.

The final STL model in the Scan Center NG software is compared with the loaded reference design model. The result of the process is a color map of deviations between the two models. The measurement results can be exported to JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF formats.

3D model of a cast wheel for further milling

To accomplish this task the studio .ru scanned an alloy wheel using a RangeVision Spectrum 3D scanner.

Based on the obtained scan, reverse engineering was carried out and the desired 3D model was created for further milling and anti-corrosion treatment.
