Could your organisation understand and explain a software vulnerability within 24 hours?

By the end of 2026, this will be more than a hypothetical question for many CTOs.

From 11 September 2026, the Cyber Resilience Act introduces reporting obligations for actively exploited vulnerabilities and severe incidents affecting products with digital elements. In some cases, the first warning must be submitted within 24 hours.

But the report itself is not the hardest part.

Before a company can report accurately, its teams must know:

🔹 which product and version are affected;

🔹 where the vulnerable component is used;

🔹 which customers or environments may be exposed;

🔹 who owns the investigation and response;

🔹 whether a corrective update can be released safely.

For much of the discussion surrounding the EU AI Act, attention has focused on large technology companies, developers of powerful AI models, and organizations deploying high-risk artificial intelligence systems.

As of August 2, 2026, the conversation has become much broader.

New transparency requirements under Article 50 of the EU AI Act extend obligations to a much wider range of organizations and professionals using AI-generated or AI-manipulated content. Advertising agencies, media organizations, designers, content creators, freelancers, businesses, NGOs, and other organizations may now need to disclose when people are interacting with AI or when certain content has been generated or substantially manipulated using AI.

The important shift is this: AI compliance is increasingly becoming an operational issue, rather than something reserved for Big Tech or highly regulated AI applications.

And because the rules can also apply to organizations outside the EU when their AI systems or content are made available in the EU market, their practical impact reaches well beyond European companies.

For much of the artificial intelligence boom, attention has focused on the companies building the models. The assumption was straightforward: as AI adoption accelerated, the biggest winners would be the new generation of model developers and AI-native startups.

Recent results from some of Europe’s largest technology companies suggest a more complex picture.

Established software, consulting, and cloud infrastructure groups such as SAP, Capgemini, Sopra Steria, and OVHcloud are reporting stronger demand, faster growth, or improved outlooks as businesses move beyond AI experiments and begin integrating the technology into their day-to-day operations.

For the last few years, a lot of the enterprise AI conversation has focused on models.

Which model performs better? Which one is cheaper? Should we build, buy or fine-tune? Which provider should we choose?

Those questions still matter.

But for CTOs, a more difficult problem is quickly taking their place:

How do we make AI work reliably inside the systems the business already depends on?

A proof of concept can be surprisingly easy to build.

Production is different.

The moment an AI system needs to access internal data, interact with an ERP, call APIs, trigger business processes or make decisions with operational consequences, the problem becomes much bigger than AI.

It becomes an architecture problem.
An integration problem.
A permissions and security problem.
A data problem.
And, quite often, a legacy modernization problem.
