Most large-scale AI projects don't fail because of the model. The challenge usually starts much earlier. 💡

Duplicated records. Fragmented systems. Data that was never meant to talk to each other, pushed into a pipeline and expected to produce something meaningful. Without a solid foundation, even the best models struggle.

There's a step many organizations skip. We call it the Zero Step: getting your data in order before a single model is trained or deployed.

What a fantastic two days at Data Makers Fest (May 5–6) at the iconic Alfândega do Porto! 🎉

JTA was proud to have a booth at the event, and our CEO had the pleasure of hosting two great sessions:
Lessons Learned from Optimizing a Spark Streaming Pipeline with João António — How a focused review of a Spark Streaming pipeline exposed hidden architectural issues and sparked a broader discussion on partitioning, metadata management, and flexible table formats.

Lessons Learned after 6.7T Events through PostgreSQL Queues with Aris Tzoumas — A six-year journey scaling PostgreSQL to 100,000 events per second, proving it can compete with dedicated systems like Kafka while keeping things simple and reliable.

🏆 National Top 10 — Red Bull Basement 2026

We're incredibly proud to share that Ana Rita, one of our own at JTA — The Data Scientists, has just made it to the National Top 10 of Red Bull Basement 2026.

Her project? A Skin Lesion Detection System for Skin Cancer Prevention — a deep learning-powered solution designed to support the initial triage of skin lesions using image analysis and patient data.
The goal is ambitious but deeply human: make skin cancer prevention faster, smarter, and more accessible for everyone. By identifying low-risk situations early and flagging cases that may need urgent attention, Ana Rita's system could help reduce pressure on our national health system — freeing up critical appointments for those who need them most.

Congratulations, Ana Rita. We couldn't be prouder. 🚀
