Today Ocean Tech Hub, through its initiative Peniche Ocean Watch, had the honour of receiving the European Parliament Committee on Fisheries during their mission to Portugal, where we presented our Peladrone Project - a digital support tool for coastal fisheries.

Peladrone is a digital innovation project co-funded by EEA and Norway Grants / DGPM - Direção-Geral de Política do Mar and developed in partnership with high-tech Norwegian drone manufacturers Birdview AS. Together we are developing sensor equipped maritime drones that will detect and track schools of fish, as a tool to support coastal fisheries; increasing their sustainability and competitiveness.

The project is just one of Peniche Ocean Watch 's Pilot Blue Circular Economy Model.

Hoje o Ocean Tech Hub, através da sua iniciativa , teve a honra de receber a Comissão das Pescas do durante a sua missão a Portugal, onde apresentamos o nosso - uma ferramenta digital de apoio à pesca costeira.

O Peladrone é um projeto de inovação digital cofinanciado por / e desenvolvido em parceria com os fabricantes noruegueses de drones de alta tecnologia .tech. Juntos, estamos a desenvolver drones marítimos equipados com sensores que detectarão e rastrearão cardumes de peixes, como uma ferramenta de apoio à pesca costeira; aumentando a sua sustentabilidade e competitividade.

Part of the peladrone team was in Horten, Norway, yesterday visiting Kongsberg Gruppen maritime to discuss ocean innovation, improved sensors for our drones, and future collaborations.

Kongsberg Maritime is a world leader in marine technology, providing the innovative precision solutions that will ensure Peladrone’s success

We even got to see their calibration pool where all of the sonars and echosounders are tested and calibrated.

🔍 At present, approximately 45% of the SME fisheries' time is spent searching for fish.

Today’s fishing vessel sonar system is disrupted by noisy engines, and only reaches 3 km, forcing the vessel to sweep vast areas of the sea before finding a potential catch.

The PELADRONE project is developing and implementing a drone-based reconnaissance solution for Portuguese SME fisheries to more efficiently locate, track, and catch pelagic fish.
