What is the structural and narrative function of film music within the grammar of audiovisual language?

Far from constituting a mere accompaniment, film music operates as a core component of audiovisual construction. It actively shapes emotional perception, articulates temporal rhythm, and reinforces narrative coherence through its interaction with editing practices, sound design, and immersive spatial audio formats.

This publication explores how compositional strategies (such as leitmotivic development, timbral design, and textural layering) function as strategic instruments in contemporary cinema. It also examines the hybridization between music and sound design, as well as the enduring cultural and mnemonic impact of musical themes across films, series, and broader audiovisual works.
