On January 7th, 2024, we marked a significant milestone: our 10th anniversary! 🎂🥳

It has been an incredible journey since our inception in 2014, as a spin-off of the University and the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra. Over the past decade, we have continued to push the boundaries in the field of mobile robotics. While our team may be small, our impact has been nothing short of extraordinary. We have grown in visibility, influence, and most importantly, success, particularly within the domain of field robotics. From privately-funded ventures to large-scale, publicly-funded R&D projects, including those on the European stage, we have consistently delivered innovative solutions that combine robotics and AI to tackle the most challenging domains, such as agriculture, forestry, and construction. 🤖

To celebrate this milestone, we decided to do what we do best and follow the example of our robots – embrace the outdoors! We embarked on a thrilling adventure in the mountains of Valongo. Our day was filled with a Taskmaster event, navigating buggies through the forest, and enjoying a delightful lunch!

We want to express our deepest gratitude to our partners, clients, collaborators, and everyone who has been part of our journey. Your trust and support have been our driving force. 🙏 As we look ahead to the next ten years, we are excited about the new horizons we will explore, the boundaries we will push, and the innovations we will create. Together, we will continue to shape the future of robotics and AI.

We are happy to be invited to participate in the 5th edition of the Ceramic Technical Sessions (Jornadas Técnicas da Cerâmica)!

This event, organized by the Center for Ceramic and Glass Technology (CTCV - Centro de Tecnologia e Inovação), the Portuguese Association of Ceramic and Glass Industries (Aicer - Associação Portuguesa das Indústrias de Cerâmica e Cristalaria), the Portuguese Society of Ceramics and Glass (Sociedade Portuguesa de Cerâmica e Vidro), and the Department of Materials and Ceramics at the University of Aveiro (Universidade de Aveiro), brings together experts to explore the future of ceramics and emerging technologies.

We had an incredible time hosting the FEROX EU project's face-to-face meeting in the vibrant city of Porto!

Over the past days, we had the privilege of bringing together brilliant minds from across the globe to discuss the latest developments in our groundbreaking project. FEROX is all about revolutionizing forestry management with autonomous drones and AI, and the progress we have seen so far is nothing short of impressive.

Our meeting was a deep dive into the work we have done, especially in the wake of the data collection campaign in Ilomantsi last summer. The insights and data collected are paving the way for smarter, more sustainable forestry practices.

But it was not all work and no play! We made sure to take in the beauty of Porto's city center, enjoyed a Porto wine tasting experience (when in Porto, right?), savored delicious meals together, and paid a visit to Ingeniarius' headquarters!

We had an electrifying time at Expoval 2023, and one of the highlights was our workshop: "Desvendando a Robótica Móve: Um Workshop Prático e Introdutório ao Programa RobotCraft" ("Unraveling Mobile Robotics: A Practical and Introductory Workshop to RobotCraft").

Micael Couceiro took the stage to unveil Ingeniarius' journey, sharing our roadmap and the pioneering R&D activities that have fueled our innovation for years. We also gave a sneak peek into the exciting RobotCraft - Robotics Craftsmanship International Academy, where innovation meets hands-on experience. The session ignited with a hands-on Arduino programming workshop, where participants dived headfirst into the world of robotics and tech.

Thrilled to share this milestone! 🤖 Our paper entitled "NR5G-SAM: A SLAM Framework for Field Robot Applications Based on 5G New Radio" has taken the stage, unlocking a new dimension in robot localization and navigation.

In outdoor environments, the challenge of accurate robot localization intensifies. While GNSS, LiDAR, and visual methods have paved the way, limitations persist. Enter our ongoing work on cellular Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), driven by 5G New Radio (NR) signals and inertial measurements.

This paper is an outcome of the ITN-5GSmartFact European Project, where Ingeniarius, Lda stands as a proud partner. A notable stride in this journey is Panagiotis Karfakis, our early-stage researcher whose PhD pursuits, in partnership with the University of Coimbra, shaped this remarkable endeavor.

We're excited about the doors this opens for next-level robotic operations and our industry's dynamic evolution.

Ingeniarius, Lda proudly made its mark at the Workshop on Perception and Situation Awareness (https://sites.google.com/view/rosa-ecmr23/), a key segment of the European Conference on Mobile Robots (https://ecmr2023.isr.uc.pt/) hosted by the Institute of Systems and Robotics - University of Coimbra.

Micael Couceiro took the stage as an invited speaker, presenting the topic "Human-Aware Collaborative Robots in the Wild". In a captivating session, we have unveiled the remarkable journey of Ingeniarius, which ignited in 2014, and has seamlessly progressed into an all-encompassing robotics ecosystem tailored for challenging field applications, such as agriculture, forestry and construction. The roadmap journeyed from inception to fruition, but the heart of the discussion delved into the present – the efforts to design a human-robot collaboration architecture for these intricate field scenarios. Central to this mission is the nuanced understanding of human behavior and the ingenious adaptation of robots in response.

This endeavor represents not just a technological stride, but a commitment to shaping the future of robotics, making them true companions in demanding settings. 🤖

🌿🍇 Another important step in the FEROX EU project! 🚀

We are thrilled to share that Ingeniarius, Lda, represented by our CEO Micael Couceiro and CTO André Araújo, was actively engaged in a groundbreaking data collection mission for the FEROX project!

Over three eventful days in the mesmerizing forests of Ilomantsi, Finland, our team collaborated with other consortium partners to acquire high-quality data using advanced drone technologies. From capturing stunning images with various camera modalities to gathering precise point clouds using 3D LiDARs, we ventured into the heart of the Finnish wilderness to study wild berry yields. 🍒🍇🍓

The FEROX project aims to revolutionize the wild berry industry in Finland through innovative AI approaches. Not only are we committed at generating detailed 3D maps of the forests, but we are also delving into the specific locations and abundance of various berry species, like crowberries, lingonberries, bilberries, and cloudberries. 🤖🌲

It was no easy feat! The enchanting Finnish forests presented us with challenges, but our team's dedication and determination made it all worthwhile. 💪

As we move into the next phase, we will now work hard at analyzing and processing the terabytes of collected data using advanced AI techniques. This will not only enable us to optimize wild berry harvesting, but also pave the way for sustainable practices that balance economic growth and environmental conservation. 🌍🍒
