Here is my honest review of Túnel de Guajataca, located right on the border of Isabela and Quebradillas:The Vibe & History 🚂Built in 1904 for the sugarcane railway, this spot perfectly blends historical architecture with raw natural beauty. The main tunnel itself is an easy, flat walk. As you exit, you are hit with stunning, dramatic views of massive limestone cliffs and intense ocean waves smashing against the rocks. The walls near the entrance feature some awesome, vibrant murals painted by local artists that make for the perfect photo backdrop!When to Go: If you visit on Saturday or Sunday, the entrance comes alive with local food kiosks, artisans, and family activities. You can grab a cold coco frío or some local street food, and they even offer a tiny, rideable miniature train for kids that mimics the old sugarcane route. If you prefer a quiet, secluded hike, go early on a weekday morning.
ImportantThings to Know Before Visiting:🚫 Do not swim here! The beach is beautiful to look at, but the undertow and current are notoriously rough and dangerous.👟 Wear decent shoes. If you decide to walk past the tunnel onto the trail toward Playa El Pastillo or explore the rocky tide pools, you will want stable footwear.🗑️ Pack it out. The area is free to visit and park, but it can suffer from littering.
