The AI Shift Is Already Here

Understanding the New Landscape

Artificial Intelligence is no longer something reserved for research labs or technology companies.
It is rapidly becoming part of everyday life.

From the tools people use at work, to the apps on their phones, to the systems running inside organizations, AI is quietly changing how information is created, analyzed, and used.

For many people this change feels both exciting and confusing.

New tools appear every week.
New capabilities are announced almost daily.
And it is not always easy to understand what is truly useful, what is hype, and what actually matters.

This is where understanding AI clearly becomes important.

Not just from a technical perspective, but from a practical one.

How does AI affect the way we work?
How can it be used responsibly?
How do we separate useful tools from misleading claims?
How do we stay aware of risks such as fraud, misinformation, or misuse?

These are questions that more people are beginning to ask.

AI Is Not Just About Technology

Many conversations about artificial intelligence focus only on the tools themselves.

But AI is also about:

• how decisions are made
• how information is interpreted
• how people interact with automated systems
• how technology influences work and daily life

Understanding AI therefore requires more than simply learning how to use an application.

It requires learning how to think about AI.

Why Awareness Matters

As AI systems become more common, the ability to understand them becomes increasingly valuable.

Being informed helps people:

• recognize misleading information
• understand the limits of automated systems
• use technology responsibly
• stay aware of emerging risks
• identify real opportunities for improvement

AI literacy is quickly becoming an important part of digital awareness.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM BUSINESSES.

If you have a Small or Medium Business, you are at the best of times to make it flourish. Artificial intelligence (AI) has brought countless tools that can take your business to the level you always dreamed of and beyond.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is not just for large corporations. Small and medium-sized businesses can also benefit from this technology. From improving the efficiency of your business, the experience of your customers, and most importantly, up to helping you strengthen your business and increase your profits. AI offers you a variety of tools that can save and/or transform your business easily and quickly.

Imagine being able to predict your sales, make more profits, automate repetitive tasks that take up your time, and offer 24/7 customer service, without the need to hire more staff. All of this is possible with AI. In addition, the implementation of these technologies is cheaper and easier than you think.

Current possibilities:
Increase Productivity: According to a McKinsey study, companies that adopt AI increase their productivity by an average of 40%. Example: An inventory system that tells you what you need to buy (as to not overbuy or underbuy), on time and according to the date/season, can help improve your productivity.
Cost Reduction: Automating processes using AI can reduce operational costs by up to 30%. Example: An AI system that would make you reduce operating costs is ones that makes you the schedules and number of employees per shift according to your days, sales and peak hours, that minimizes payroll expenses, but without risking the business or neglecting customer service (depending on how you define it, and you can also ask it to stay within the standards of businesses like yours, % acceptable, to grow, etc.)

Maximize Profits: Increasing your productivity and reducing your costs are ways to increase profits. But to maximize them you must balance that and more. Balancing and fine-tuning everything in your business is the way to maximize. It is an art that not many possess or have the time or are skillful. However, it is now available to everyone. Example: You can ask AI to optimize your combination of purchases, payroll, marketing, offers, expenses, etc. vs. your accounting and projections to tell you the ideal, maximum, and minimum amounts you should invest in each area, which will ensure you the highest profit. You can also ask the AI to tell you what prices you should set to improve sales and profits and how you should go about changing prices. While you are at it, ask AI tell you what else needs to be done to improve. There are no limits. Just your imagination. She (AI) is intelligent and knows. You decide.
Improved Decision-Making: AI can analyze large volumes of data in real-time, providing valuable insights that help make more informed and strategic decisions. Example: AI can tell you if you should expand or reduce payroll, regular vs. temporary employees (taking into consideration your tastes), opening hours, major purchases (vehicles, machinery, other premises) and also tell you why, plus the costs, profits and risks of the different alternatives. I mean, your business instinct will always be best. But now you can make more informed decisions, with more reliable numbers ($) and even evaluate more alternatives, with less effort and in less time.
Automation of Repetitive Tasks: AI is already automating so many repetitive tasks, freeing up time for you and/or your employees to focus on more strategic and productive tasks. Example: Let AI makes your shopping list, orders, inventory balance, checks, schedules, shifts, accumulated vacations, discounts, offers, prices, % costs, payments, agendas, reservations, appointments, promotions, menus, and/or everything you have to do many times and steals your time. Example: The AI prepares the shopping list for you, you approve it, and it orders it, follows up on it and alerts you if there are problems.

Predict Sales Trends: With AI, you can anticipate sales trends and maximize your profits. Yes, we know that you already know how to prepare for Black Friday, but, although no one ever knows, she does tell you from how much to how much you should/can invest and the risk implications of each amount.

You can even program it to let you know if there is going to be bad weather during the week and suggest if you should adjust shifts.
These are just some of the current possibilities. There are still thousands of breakthroughs to come. Learn and take advantage now that it is easy and economical. Remember, as they always say, "who hits first, hits twice". If you do not, the competition will.
--------------------------------------------------------
Practical Example:
"The Golden Fork" Restaurant: This restaurant, with a desire for growth, decided to implement an AI system to improve its customer service. They used an AI chatbot to handle reservations and answering frequently asked questions. In addition, they implemented a personalized recommendation system, which suggested drinks and food based on customers' previous purchases. They also used AI to read and analyze customer feedback to improve their services where there were repetitive deficiencies. This also helped them to define frequently asked questions. They only connected AI with their point-of-sale data. AI recognized customers thereon while they made their reservations and she worked her magic, as she was taught, alone. And to schedule it, they just have to tell her what they want her to do. [Example: They tell AI."Today we're going to offer their favorite wine to repeat customers at a 10% discount when they call for reservations." The AI already knows what each repeat customer's favorite wine is and suggests it by name, with the discount, on the same call.] As a result, not only did they increase their sales by 35% in less than 1 year, but they also significantly improved customer satisfaction.
Imagine selling $35 more for every $100 you sell now and customers being happier, without much effort.
--------------------------------------------------------
There are many opportunities on how to improve your business. And the best thing is that most of the time you do not need to hire anyone long or short term to do it nor invest much. You can tell the AI what you want to do, and it tells you what to do, and you do it at your own pace. If you do not understand, then you keep asking her. The best part is that the AI does not get tired, no matter how many times you ask/. A success!

You can start with ChatGPT (Free, or the "Upgrade", whichever you want to start with) or use Microsoft Office 365's Copilot (~20/month + Office 365). The AI itself will tell you what you need to know/do to achieve what you want. You just must know what you want and learn to ask it.

AI SECURITY FOR DAILY LIFE

How to protect yourself from new frauds using Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence (AI) is improving many aspects of our lives, from how we work to how we communicate and entertain ourselves. Unfortunately, some people also attempt to misuse new technologies to create more sophisticated scams.

Because of this, it is helpful to understand how these scams work and how to recognize warning signs. Below we explain several common examples and practical ways to stay cautious online.

What is AI fraud?

AI fraud refers to situations where people attempt to use technology to deceive others. In many cases, scammers try to imitate identities, messages, or media content in ways that appear convincing enough to gain trust.

These attempts may occur through emails, social networks, websites, or mobile phones.

Some examples include:

Fake profiles: Online profiles that pretend to be someone else in order to start conversations and gain trust.

Synthetic or manipulated media (“deepfakes”): Images, audio, or videos that appear realistic but may have been digitally altered.

Fraudulent messages: Text messages or emails that pretend to come from a known person or legitimate organization in order to obtain personal information or encourage people to click harmful links.

While these tactics can appear convincing, there are several warning signs that can help you recognize possible fraud.

Common warning signs

These are some indicators that a message or situation may not be legitimate.

Urgency
Scammers often try to create pressure to act quickly.

Example:
“Your account may be compromised. You must respond immediately.”

Unusual email addresses
The sender’s email may look similar to a real company but may contain slight differences or unusual spelling.

Suspicious links
Messages may encourage you to click on links that lead to unknown websites.

Unexpected downloads
Some messages attempt to convince users to download files or software.

Offers that seem unusually attractive
If something sounds unusually generous or unrealistic, it is wise to pause and verify the information before taking action.

There can also be other signals that something is not right, such as poor formatting, inconsistent logos, or unusual communication styles. These signs do not always mean a message is fraudulent, but they can be useful reminders to verify the source before responding.

How can you protect yourself?

There are several types of scams and different ways to reduce risk. The following examples describe some common situations and practical precautions.

1. PHISHING

Phishing occurs when someone pretends to represent a trusted organization or person in order to request information or encourage you to click a link or download a file.

Example:

“Special clearance sale! Click here to see our exclusive holiday catalog.”

Another example:

“Share this link with your contacts to receive a gift card.”

How to protect yourself

• Verify messages by contacting the organization directly using official contact information.
• Avoid clicking links or downloading attachments from unfamiliar sources.
• Do not provide sensitive information such as identification numbers, bank details, or passwords through email or text messages.

2. SYNTHETIC MEDIA (“DEEPFAKES”)

Advances in technology allow images, audio, or video to be modified or generated in ways that may appear realistic.

In some cases, scammers may attempt to imitate the voice or appearance of someone you know in order to request urgent assistance.

How to protect yourself

• If you receive an unexpected request involving money or urgent assistance, try to verify the situation through another trusted communication channel.
• Contact the person directly using a phone number or communication method you already know.
• Some research tools and services are being developed to help analyze manipulated media, although results may vary and should be interpreted cautiously.
• Sharing awareness of these tactics with family and friends can help everyone stay informed.

3. FRAUDULENT JOB OFFERS

Some scams involve attractive job opportunities that request personal documents or payments.

Example:

“Work remotely a few hours per day and earn high weekly income.”

In these situations, scammers may try to gain trust through conversations, training sessions, or professional-looking websites.

How to protect yourself

• Research the company independently before responding.
• Verify job opportunities through official company websites or trusted employment platforms.
• Be cautious about sending personal documents unless you have verified the employer.

4. ONLINE RELATIONSHIP SCAMS

Some scams involve individuals who create false identities in order to build trust and eventually request money or personal information.

Example:

A friendly message from someone claiming to have contacted you by mistake that later develops into ongoing conversations.

How to protect yourself

• Use established platforms with safety policies and moderation.
• Keep personal information private until you are confident about the identity of the person you are communicating with.
• Consider video calls or other verification methods before developing trust online.
• Be cautious with requests involving money or financial assistance.

5. GENERAL TIPS TO PROTECT YOURSELF
A) YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS

• Enable transaction alerts from your bank.
• Review your statements regularly.
• Contact your financial institution promptly if you notice unusual activity.

B) YOUR CREDIT

• Periodically review your credit reports and financial statements.
• Many services allow users to receive notifications about changes in credit activity.

If you suspect fraud, financial institutions and credit agencies can provide guidance on additional protective steps.

C) ONLINE SHOPPING

Before purchasing from unfamiliar websites:

• Verify the business reputation through independent reviews.
• Check customer feedback and seller history.
• Use payment methods that offer buyer protection when possible.

D) YOUR CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION ONLINE

Be mindful of the personal information shared on social networks.

For example, avoid publicly sharing sensitive details such as addresses, identification numbers, or financial information.

Some online services allow users to check whether personal data may have appeared in known data-breach databases. These tools can help monitor potential exposure and provide recommendations for protecting accounts.

E) STAY INFORMED

Technology continues to evolve, and new types of scams appear over time. Staying informed about common tactics can help individuals recognize suspicious situations more easily.

F) USE STRONG PASSWORDS

Use unique passwords for different accounts whenever possible.

A strong password usually includes a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. Password managers can help users store and manage credentials securely.

G) ENABLE MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (MFA)

Many online services offer multi-factor authentication. This adds an additional verification step when logging in, which can significantly improve account security.

H) PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL DATA

Identity theft can occur when personal information is exposed online.

Avoid sharing sensitive details publicly and review privacy settings on social media platforms to control who can see your information.

I) USE SECURITY SOFTWARE

Security software such as antivirus and anti-malware programs can help detect suspicious activity and provide alerts about potential threats.

Keeping devices updated and protected can help reduce risk when browsing online.

J) BE CAREFUL WITH PUBLIC WI-FI

Public Wi-Fi networks can sometimes be less secure than private networks.

When possible:

• Avoid sensitive transactions on unfamiliar networks.
• Use secure connections when available.
• Keep devices updated with security protections.

Technology continues to evolve, and awareness is one of the most effective ways to reduce risk.

AI Security for Women

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming many aspects of our lives. While most uses of AI are positive and beneficial, the technology is also being used by scammers to create new types of fraud. Because of this, it is important for everyone to understand how these scams work and how to protect themselves and their families.

Women are often active on social networks, family communication channels, and community groups. This makes awareness of AI-enabled scams particularly important, since scammers sometimes gather information from publicly shared photos, videos, and voice recordings.

An Example of a Possible AI Scam

With modern AI tools, it is possible to recreate a person’s voice or image using only a few publicly available recordings. Scammers may attempt to use this technology to create convincing messages or video calls pretending to be a family member asking for urgent help.

For example, someone could receive a message or call that appears to come from a relative claiming to be in trouble and asking for money. In stressful situations like this, it can be difficult to immediately determine whether the message is real.

Although these situations are not common, awareness helps people recognize suspicious situations and respond carefully.

Why Awareness Is Important

AI-enabled fraud can affect anyone. However, people who share personal information online, maintain active social networks, or manage family responsibilities may sometimes be targeted by scammers who attempt to exploit trust and urgency.

Understanding how these scams work helps reduce the risk.

Practical Steps to Protect Yourself

There are several simple practices that can help protect you and your family from AI-related fraud.

1. Verify unexpected messages

If someone contacts you claiming to be a family member in trouble, try to confirm the situation through another trusted channel before taking action.

2. Use family verification signals

Families can agree on simple verification methods, such as a private question, phrase, or gesture that only family members would know.

3. Be careful with public recordings

When sharing videos online, remember that audio and video recordings may be reused by others. Adjusting privacy settings and limiting public sharing can reduce exposure.

4. Stay informed about modern scams

Fraud methods evolve with technology. Learning about new scams helps people recognize warning signs early.

5. Protect financial information

Never send money or share sensitive information based solely on a message, call, or video that creates urgency or pressure.

Education Is the Best Protection

Awareness and education remain the most effective ways to reduce fraud risks. By understanding how AI-enabled scams work, individuals and families can respond calmly and verify information before taking action.
