🌍🏔 Is Mount Everest really the tallest mountain in the world?

While Everest has the highest elevation above sea level, it’s not the farthest point from the center of the Earth!

That title belongs to Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador. Although its elevation is a “mere” 6,263.47 meters (over 2 km lower than Everest), its location near the equator gives it a surprising advantage.

As a result, Chimborazo’s summit is actually about 1.8 km farther from the Earth’s core than the peak of Everest.

Last week, we had the pleasure of participating in the International AlphaGeo Distributors Conference in Turkey. 🌍

🚀 This week, we had the pleasure of attending Geoinformatics Day at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. 🤩

With many companies and experts present, we had the opportunity to listen to inspiring talks and explore modern solutions used in contemporary geodesy. 🌍📡

👷‍♂️ During the event, we showcased our GNSS receivers – AlphaGEO L2 IMU and AlphaGEO Matrix Vi. Both devices sparked great interest among participants, who eagerly asked questions, tested features, and shared their fieldwork experiences.

Once again, we had the pleasure of meeting with students from surveying schools! 📚📐 This time, we visited schools in Bytom and Wronki.

Under the attentive guidance of Piotr and Maciej, the students took part in field exercises, during which we demonstrated the capabilities of our 🛰️ AlphaGEO L2 IMU and AlphaGEO Matrix Vi GNSS receivers, working in conjunction with the QuickGNSS application. 📱🗺️

⁉️ Did you know that it was geodesy that saved the Leaning Tower of Pisa? 🤩

From the very beginning of its construction in the 12th century, the tower started to lean. For centuries, various attempts were made to stabilize it, but without success — the tilt only worsened.

It wasn’t until the early 1990s that a team from the Milan Polytechnic, led by Michele Jamiolkowski, began precise geodetic monitoring. Over the course of 20 years, accurate leveling measurements were conducted, allowing experts to predict a potential disaster and plan effective interventions.

The result? The tilt was reduced by 40 cm, and the tower can now safely stand for another 300 years!
