We added AR to a mobile app. Not because it looked cool — because we had a retention problem. 📱

Users would open the app, do their task, and never come back. The loop was too transactional.

So we added AR beacon hunting — users discover virtual beacons through their camera and earn rewards for finding them.

The result:
→ Session time increased significantly
→ Social sharing started happening organically
→ Daily objectives appeared naturally

Retention wasn’t a marketing problem. It was a loop problem. AR gave the loop what it needed.
