EQUINE ARTISTRY ADVENT CALENDAR V2

DAY 12

Today we'll stay in similiar vibes and geography, but in a bit smaller packaging - meet Voin, a Vyatka stallion! His name translates to Warrior, and it definitely suits his proud but kind aura!

Vyatka comes from Kirov Oblast and Udmurtia in Russia. They are currently an endangered breed, mostly recognizible for their common dun coloring (other colors are in the breed as well). It was valued for its endurance, speed and frugality, and often used for pulling troikas.

EQUINE ARTISTRY ADVENT CALENDAR V2

DAY 11

I might be down with the flu, but it won't stop me from sharing this cute guy with y'all - meet Lokys, a Lithuanian Heavy Draft gelding! He's sweet, sleepy and relaxed, enjoying some peaceful time in the pasture.

As name suggests, he represents a draft breed originating from Lithuania. As most drafts, they are used for heavy draught and farm work. They come in all three base colors with occasional grey or roan in the gene pool. The breed is currently at risk with less than 1000 individuals speculated to exist as of 2003.

DAY 10

Today we have a pony I'm really proud of! Meet Julius, a baroque Knabstrupper stallion! I imagine him as perfect in-hand scene prospect, attentive, feeling his best!

Knabstrupper is a Danish breed most known for their common appaloosa coats. Currently there are a few sub-types of this breed, including pony, which makes them pretty varied in shapes and sizes. Their use is just as varied, but they are mainly great riding and driving horses. The breed is currently considered at risk.

DAY 9

After a little break, we're resuming with a pretty handsome gentleman - meet Iago, a young Napoletano gelding! I wanted him to be a bit younger, but still proud boy, ready to hit the show ring with his full presence.

Napoletano is an Italian breed from Campania region. The true original Neapolitan horse is stated, by some sources, to be extinct since 1950; but since 1989, with import of stallion Il Vecchio, works started on rebuilding the breed. In 2003, currently known Napoletano was recognised by the AIA, the Italian breeders’ association, as one of 15 indigenous horse breeds of "limited distribution".

DAY 8

With 1/3 into the reveals, let's wave goodbye to 2025 and 2026! On this special day we have Chiquito - a Petiso Argentino gelding! This action packed boy is ready to slide onto your shelves and become a star, despite his small size!

Petiso Argentino is a fairly new breed originating from, as name suggests, from Argentina with registry created in 1968. They were originally crosses between imported shetland and welsh ponies, but their conformation and color suggest criollo blood was included as well. Due to their size they are mainly riding horses for children, but due to their versatility are now used for many different disciplines.

EQUINE ARTISTRY ADVENT CALENDAR V2

DAY 7

I hope everyone had amazing Christmas and now we can get back to ponies - this one is still stylish even after the holidays! Meet Wisteria, a Suffolk Punch mare. Her hair is braided nicely and she's ready for the show - sporting 7 raffia flowers/flights in her mane.

Suffolk Punch is an endangered breed from England developed in the early 16th century. They are sturdy and well muscled, always come in chestnut color only (traditionally spelled chesnut). Their phenotype is pretty characteristic compared to other known draft breeds such as Shire or Clydesdale due to their original use for agricultural work rather than road haulage. When they show, they tend to have 7, 9 or 11 raffia in their manes, while hitch horses have usually 5.

EQUINE ARTISTRY ADVENT CALENDAR V2

DAY 6

Today's pony, although a bit difficult at first, is pretty special to me - meet Vitnos, a Gotland Pony gelding! He's a little homage to my childhood and inspired by early-age obsession with Marie Louise Rudolfsson's books. Vitnos might have not been my favourite character of all (team Alouette!), but definitely was a part of many stories this little kid made in the past.

Gotland Ponies, also known as Gotland Russ, come from swedish island Gotland. They are currently riding and harness ponies, coming in many colors. They are a hardy breed, somewhat similiar to our huculs and koniks.

EQUINE ARTISTRY ADVENT CALENDAR V2

DAY 5

Next pony definitely keeps up the action streak - meet Marcus, a Dongola stallion! This gentleman definitely has opinions and is not afraid to voice them, looking stunning while doing so! He's going to be a super cool model for photos, especially in the wild - but might get irritated by rocks...

Dongola is an african breed originating from Sudan. There are many local subtypes and crosses of the breed, but not much is known or easily available to find online overall. They often have convex head profile, come in all 3 base colors and sometimes have sabino-like white pattern.

EQUINE ARTISTRY ADVENT CALENDAR V2

DAY 4

Today we spice things up with Intrépido - an Altér Real stallion! He's definitely for the action lovers, with his pose, flowy hair and lots of attitude. He comes with classy, simple oval base for support, making him almost look like a trophy - he would look great as both realistic and decorator model!

Altér Real comes from Portugal and is actually a strain of Lustiano (PSL). They were originally bred exclusively at the Altér Real State Stud, founded in 1748, and were used as horses for royals and national riding academy. They are only bay in colour.

EQUINE ARTISTRY ADVENT CALENDAR V2

DAY 3

Next up is Granite - Georgian Grande gelding. This handsome gentleman is proud, confident and performance ready! His braided mane and lifted forelock will not only look nice, but also won't get in a way of tack! And his unusual pose will spice up the diorama setup as well!

Georgian Grande is a relatively new american breed created by crossing American Saddlebreds with Friesians (like Granite!) and selected drafts to bring back the heavier, baroque type. They come in any color available in the crossing breeds, including many dilutions and white patterns.
