Hi everyone 👋

Last weekend, namely on December 25 and 26, an incredibly cool corporate party was held in Minsk and Krakow. Yes, you heard right, we finally met not in zoom! 😎

Our Belarusian-Polish guys visited the incredibly beautiful city of Krakow, listened to stories about Polish kings, legends about the dragon and learned the history of the Jewish quarter. After an exciting walk, the guys moved to fill our bellies with delicious dishes and discuss the day they had passed.

The second part of the team celebrated a corporate party in Logoysk, conquering the snowy slopes. What is most interesting, some stood on a snowboard for the first time and after a few hours rode like a pro. They also had a warm dinner and an equally warm conversation after an active day.

But why all this talk, and to the fact that the New Year 2022 is already here!
Dektry would like to congratulate you from the bottom of our hearts, wish you strong health, happiness and good luck.
Let your dreams come true in the new year, creative ideas take physical shape, and good news surround you throughout the year!✨

Attending conferences is a great opportunity to visit new countries, explore amazing cultures and speak to people about how software engineering is similar on the other side of the world 🌎

Let’s consider some benefits of attending tech conferences:

😎 Broaden your horizons

Conferences are a great way to get out of our comfort zones, open ourselves up to new possibilities and stimulate our minds with new approaches and solutions that will help us with our projects. Tech conferences give you a great way to expand your knowledge and dive into new technologies, tools, frameworks and languages.

📱 Extend your own network

Conferences are a great opportunity to build new relationships with people from different industries, backgrounds and skill sets. While we may not benefit immediately from new relationships, you never know how these relationships can help us in the future to solve problems, find solutions and create new opportunities.

🧘 Feel inspired, recharged & motivated

Going to a conference for a couple of days is one of the best ways to help recharge your work life. Listening to industry leaders and tech pioneers gives us deeper insights that you typically don’t get during your daily routines. You’ll come back from a conference feeling inspired and motivated from what you’ve learned, who you’ve connected with and with what you’ve experienced.

🦾 Strengthen your existing skill set

At conferences, you get to gain valuable insights, tips and techniques on your tech stack from the programming languages you use to the frameworks and applications you operate with. You’ll leave the event having enhanced your technical skills.

😌 Reconnect with others

Life is busy so sometimes we don’t always get to meet up with friends or colleagues. Many developers attend conferences to stay in touch with those they rarely get to see. So, as a way to stay connected, we can plan ahead and go with others to events and conferences as a great way to meet up.

December is close as well as the semi-annual assessment 😈
So, it's time to pull up knowledge to successfully pass an assessment.

And today we share some tips with you to simplify the preparation process a little 😎

1️⃣. The first and most important point is to find questions for the assessment. If you can't find it, ask your colleagues to share it, write to the chat, the guys will be happy to share it with you.

2️⃣. Go through the list of questions and determine which ones will take you longer and which ones less.

3️⃣ Write down difficult questions for yourself and start preparing for them first.

4️⃣ Brevity is the sister of talent. Try to make your answers as brief as possible.

5️⃣ No practice anywhere. During the preparation, not only read the dry theory, but also try to apply it in practice. Find practical tasks and get your hands on them.

6️⃣ Choose the time at which it is most convenient for you to prepare and devote 1-2 hours to preparation, but do not forget to rest!

7️⃣ Ask your colleagues to explain how and where this or that technology is used. Sometimes there will be an explanation from a friend more understandable than an explanation from Google 🙂

8️⃣ Don't worry. Treat the assessment neither as a state exam, but as a test of your knowledge and finding your strengths and weaknesses.

Do you have any life hacks to share?😎

Habits are automatic actions that help us save time and effort when solving complex tasks.

Programming is directly related to the constant solution of these most complex tasks, the presence of useful habits becomes a necessity for fast and successful work ☝️

In this post, Dektry team will share their useful habits.

Let's roll 😉

1️⃣ Constantly check technical news.
2️⃣ Use the calendar so as not to forget about meetings, retrospectives and just important calls.
3️⃣ Keep tabs\bookmarks in order on your computer.
4️⃣ If som**hing is unclear or you don't know som**hing, google it.
5️⃣ Always check the code before pushing it.
6️⃣ Use small commits.
7️⃣ Ask questions in Slack.
8️⃣ Under any circumstances, write documentation.
9️⃣ Learn about the task. The more you understand about what you need to do, the easier it is to find a suitable solution.
🔟 Believe that everything is possible. There are millions of solutions to various problems in the world, you just need to see them.

Levelling up your programming skills is a journey without a destination. There’s always an aspect of programming you can learn or improve on.

Here are some ways for improving programming among many programmers.

🧑‍💻 Code and more Code

Practicing coding daily will significantly improve your coding skill for sure. Try to solve as many problems as you can. Participate in coding challenges. There are lots of competitions happening each year. Competitive programming is also a good way to test your ability.

📱 Do Side projects

Having a side project as a side hustle is always a good idea for developers. You can learn a lot of things that you are not able to learn from your day job.

👩‍🏫. Teaching

Educating others on how to write programs in a language you have experience in is a proven m**hod to improve your programming skills and showcase your expertise.

3️⃣. Write it three times

First, you write the software to prove to yourself (or a client) that the solution is possible. Others may not recognize that this is just a proof-of-concept, but you do.
The second time, you make it work.
The third time, you make it work right.

🤓 Read code. Read lots of code

When you read others’ code, you see how someone else solved a programming problem. But don’t treat it as literature; think of it as a lesson and a challenge. To get better, ask yourself:
What would you do differently, now that you’ve seen another solution?
How would I improve this code?

How are you improving your programming skills?

Are you ready for Halloween? We have prepared several tips for making this holiday more terribly scary👻

🎃 Stop wiping the dust near your computer in advance so that by the day of the celebration it was already impressive and became a decor.

🎃 In any unclear situation, turn on the music from the Doom game at full volume. Let the whole office join your festive mood.

🎃 Put on an invisibility suit for a weekly planning call.

🎃 Take out the cup with coffee or tea stains that you forgot to wash before your last year's vacation. It's her time to become a decor.

🎃 Take out a torn shirt and a worn T-shirt from the closet. Put it on and take a look at yourself - how do they match your sleepless bruises under your eyes. Here is your zombie image and ready.

🎃 If you are not just a programmer but also an engineer, then it's time to scare the girls from the HR department by suddenly turning off the lights by pulling the keys on the switchboard.

🎃 And if you are not a very good engineer and som**hing went wrong, then the costume of the victim is provided to you and you will not have to bother with makeup.

🎃 And finally. Do not restrain yourself in your desire for a holiday. If you want to change the desktop background to pumpkins, change it. And let them envy you all!😏

Happy Halloween!

Are you one of those people who like to drink your morning coffee, catch up on email and tune into a conference call at the same time? Do you know that it can be harmful not only for your productivity but also for your mental health? 🤯

We’ve collected 4 reasons why you should stop multitasking today.

❌ It Kills Productivity

We’d like to think that it’s possible to juggle multiple tasks at once, but it comes with the cost of reducing the quality and quantity of attention applied to a task.
As a result, your productivity is less than that of someone who focuses on one task at a time.

According to Gloria Mark, professor in the department of informatics at the University of California, it takes an average of 23 minutes and 15 seconds to get back to a task after an interruption.

🧐 It Could Decrease Intelligence

A study conducted by the University of London found that adult participants who multitasked experienced drops in IQ points to the average range of an 8-year-old child.

Imagine the effects of writing an important email while responding to texts on your phone. There won’t be much difference in the quality of your work and that of an 8-year-old child.

If you’re struggling to deliver high-quality work on a consistent basis, make sure to eliminate distractions in your environment and avoid multitasking. This will help to raise the quality of your work.

😥 It Causes Chronic Stress and Anxiety

When we constantly switch between tasks, cortisol, a stress hormone, is released in our body. This hormone creates stress, tires us out, and leaves us mentally fatigued.

Then, anxiety builds up, and we act impulsively, which creates more stress. The cycle then repeats itself, creating a constant state of stress and anxiety.

😩. It Causes Overwhelm and Burnout

Ever wonder why you feel constantly tired, even after a good night of sleep or a long vacation?

The constant switching between tasks requires a lot of attention and energy. When your brain shifts attention from one task to another, the prefrontal cortex of the brain loses oxygenated glucose, which is required for staying focused on tasks.

The more tasks you switch between, the more oxygenated glucose your brain burns. After a short period of time, you’ll feel overwhelmed and tired, because of the loss of nutrients in the brain.

In autumn we can often find ourselves feeling as though we have less energy, and more prone to feeling low or unmotivated.

Let’s explore ways that you can beat the autumn blues, and once again find motivation and enjoyment despite the colder weather 🥶

🥱 Develop better sleeping patterns

It can be a common feeling to wake up more tired than usual in autumn and the winter months, and we all want more sleep when the seasons change.

Often we can go against our bodies natural inclination to sleep by drinking coffee to wake ourselves up in the day or by eating larger portions of food in the evening which makes us sleepy. However, sticking to a more regular pattern of sleep, and ensuring we go to bed and wake up at the same time will assist us in transitioning into autumn.

💪 Exercise and eat well

Making time to keep physically active during the autumn months is very important, and will help you in feeling healthier, more energised and more active. Going out to exercise can make a huge difference to increasing levels of positivity.

🤗 Being more social

Spending more time with family and friends can assist with how we manage the transition into the colder months.
Doing som**hing different to our usual routine can assist us to feel more outgoing and allow us to concentrate on the good things and people we have in our lives.

😇 Take Time to Relax More Often

Sometimes we get so busy with our daily life and tasks that we forget about relaxing – and when we don’t relax, we feel stressed and anxious. Taking time to relax more often will not only help you feel better, but it will also help improve your mental health in general.

How do you cope with autumn blues?👊
