A City in Darkness — A Breach of Fundamental Human Rights
The residents of Jhol have been enduring prolonged power outages throughout the night, depriving them of one of the most basic necessities of modern life. Access to electricity is not a luxury; it is essential for safety, health, education, and daily living.
Under international human rights law, including the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the persistent denial of essential services raises serious concerns regarding governance, accountability, and the protection of human dignity. The failure to ensure continuous access to basic utilities reflects a neglect of the state's responsibility toward its citizens.
From an Islamic perspective, leadership is a trust (Amanah), and authorities are obligated to ensure justice, welfare, and the provision of basic needs. The ongoing situation contradicts these principles, as hardship is being imposed rather than alleviated.
Where are the responsible authorities? Why are the people of Jhol left to suffer?
We call upon the relevant institutions to take immediate and effective action to restore electricity and to implement sustainable solutions to prevent such disruptions in the future. The people have a right to live with dignity and access essential services without interruption.
