Privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) and privacy-enhancing computation (PEC) are two hot research areas in computer science right now, with many new ideas coming forward every day. In this blog post, I speculate on what the development of PETs will look like in the next five years and what these technologies will be used for in 2022. Let’s begin!
The biggest technological trends impacting PEC
technology
A report, Privacy and Security Features of Privacy-Enhancing
Technologies: A Threat Model and Evaluation, authored by Mila Parkour, Neil
Roodyn, Bart Preneel, and Hendrik Willem Baetens created a security threat model to
help evaluate privacy and security features in PEC technology. The model
classifies the privacy threat into three levels of severity: low, medium, and high.
It also grades the security level for these types of features using a four-point scale: no effect; benign effect; neutral effect; detrimental effect. This
type of evaluation may improve the usefulness of future PEC solutions by
helping identify gaps in existing products. More specifically, an analysis of
threats from this paper would allow people designing new privacy-enhancing
threats from this paper would allow people to design new privacy-enhancingd.
