Former KFC and Pizza Hut Operator in Turkey Declares Bankruptcy, Leaving Thousands Jobless Amid Prot_ests

The former operator of KFC and Pizza Hut in Turkey, has filed for bankruptcy due to $214 million (TL 7.7 billion) in debt.

As a result, 537 restaurants have closed, and around 7,000 workers have lost their jobs.

Many employees are protes_ting in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, demanding unpaid wages and compensation. Is Gida’s CEO, Ilkem Sahin, revealed the company’s dire financial state, including sei_zed properties and collateral losses.

Suzuki Alto dominated Pakistan’s auto market in January 2025, topping sales with 5,039 units.

The ‘Below 1000cc’ category led car sales with 5,633 units, followed by the ‘1300cc and Above’ segment with 5,518 units.

Toyota Corolla & Yaris led the latter with 2,149 units. Overall, car sales surged by 61.4% year-on-year, reaching 17,010 units.

The auto sector witnessed a strong boost, with LCVs, vans, and jeeps up by 87.5%.

ماضی کی مقبول ماڈل، میک اپ آرٹسٹ، ٹی وی میزبان و اداکار نادیہ حسین نے اعتراف کیا ہے کہ فیشن اور ماڈلنگ انڈسٹری میں ہمیشہ سے ہی ’کچھ لو، کچھ دو‘ کا ماحول رہا ہے، جنہیں کام دیا جاتا ہے، ان سے کچھ لیا بھی جاتا رہا ہے۔

نادیہ حسین نے حال ہی میں ایک پوڈکاسٹ میں شرکت کی، جہاں انہوں نے فیشن، ماڈلنگ اور شوبز انڈسٹری میں ’کچھ لو، کچھ دو‘ یعنی کاسٹنگ کاؤچ کے ماحول پر بات کی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ نہ صرف فیشن اور شوبز بلکہ دوسری انڈسٹریز میں بھی ’کچھ لو، کچھ دو‘ کا ماحول رہا ہے، تاہم حالیہ عرصے میں شوبز میں یہ ماحول زیادہ دیکھنے کو مل رہا ہے۔

ان کے مطابق جب انہوں نے ماڈلنگ شروع کی تھی، اس وقت بھی ’کچھ لو، کچھ دو‘ کا ماحول ہوتا تھا لیکن اب انہیں لگتا ہے کہ مذکورہ ماحول زیادہ ہوگیا ہے۔

نادیہ حسین کے مطابق وہ اپنے ساتھ کیریئر شروع کرنے والی بہت ساری اپنی قریبی اداکاراؤں کو جانتی ہیں، جو ’کچھ لو، کچھ دو‘ کے فارمولے پر چلیں لیکن ان کا ان کے اس فارمولے پر چلنے سے کوئی تعلق نہیں۔

ماڈل و میک اپ آرٹسٹ کے مطابق ماڈلنگ کی دنیا میں ہمیشہ سے ہی ’کچھ لو، کچھ دو‘ کے فارمولے پر کام ہوتا رہا ہے، زیادہ تر مواقع دینے والے مرد ہی ہوتے ہیں اور وہ لڑکیوں سمیت لڑکوں سے بھی فوائد لیتے رہتے ہیں۔

نادیہ حسین نے دعویٰ کیا کہ ماضی کے مقابلے میں اب ایسا لگتا ہے کہ ’کچھ لو، کچھ دو‘ کا ماحول زیادہ عام بن چکا ہے یا پھر اب لوگ زیادہ روشن خیال بن چکے ہیں اور ایسے ماحول کو غلط نہیں سمجھتے۔

انہوں نے اعتراف کیا کہ انہیں بھی ماضی میں ’کچھ لو، کچھ دو‘ کی پیش کش ہوتی رہی ہیں، انہیں متعدد پروگرامات میں اچھے بجٹ کے ساتھ آنے کی پیش کش کی گئی لیکن ساتھ میں ایک خاص ’ڈنر‘ کا کہا جاتا، جس پر وہ انکار کردیتی تھیں۔ نادیہ حسین نے انکشاف کیا کہ محض دو یا ڈھائی سال قبل بھی انہیں اس طرح کی پیش کش ہوئی۔

انہوں نے بتایا کہ حال ہی میں کچھ عرصہ قبل انہیں بھوربن میں تین دن کی کانفرنس کی میزبانی کی پیش کش ہوئی اور انہوں نے اپنی مرضی کے پیسے بتائے، جس پر منتظمین رضامند ہوگئے۔

In collaboration with China, a plan is afoot to shift Pakistan Railways to solar energy in a bid to ward off colossal financial damages and lay the foundation of green energy in railway infrastructure.

Initially, 100 sites with heavy electricity consumption have been identified and once shifted to solar energy, it would save at least Rs1 billion a year for the entity.

According to senior PR officials, the government of Pakistan and Chinese firms have been negotiating to hammer out an actional deal.
“Pakistan has started attuning its transport infrastructure to realize its vision of high-quality green and sustainable development,” he added.

Another PR official said "CPEC has changed the landscape of Pakistan and accelerated growth while bringing about socio-economic benefits for the people of Pakistan. China's commitment to promoting carbon-free global economy is commendable."

The officials said that the railway management has assigned NESPAK to complete the feasibility study of installing solar panels on selected sites, adding that 16,535 out of 26,660 electric meters so far of the railway’s residential complexes are shifted to Distribution Companies (Discos) and Karachi-Electric (KE) to minimise the financial losses.

“The electric meters of residential complexes are being shifted to Discos by the department and the step has resulted in savings of Rs1.3 billion so far,” they added.

In a remarkable transformation, a desolate airstrip nestled in the remote expanse bordering Pakistan is poised to become the launchpad for one of the world's largest renewable energy parks.

This airstrip, devoid of an air traffic controller and furnished only with basic amenities like a portable toilet and a makeshift office, initially seemed an improbable starting point for such a venture. However, it now stands as the gateway to the sprawling Khavda renewable energy park, exemplifying innovation and vision in India's renewable energy sector.

Back in December 2022, Gautam Adani, the head of the Adani Group and then the world's second richest person, made his inaugural landing at this diminutive airstrip. Situated amidst miles of arid terrain and lacking even a pincode, the area derived its name from a village situated 80 km away. It was a landscape devoid of vegetation, characterized by highly saline soil and minimal human habitation. Yet, beneath its desolate facade lay the promise of abundant renewable energy resources.

An 18-kilometer journey from the airstrip, through dusty arid plains, leads to the site of the Khavda renewable energy park, sprawling over 538 square km - approximately five times the size of Paris. Despite the initial skepticism, Adani's vision saw potential in the region, boasting the second-best solar radiation in the country after Ladakh and wind speeds five times that of the plains.

According to media reports, IMF officials will be briefed on updates regarding Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) reforms, tax collection progress, and urgent steps taken to improve tax collection for the fiscal year.

Furthermore, representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will provide information to the IMF delegation regarding plans to introduce new plastic currency notes aimed at combating counterfeit currency, a problem observed in Far Eastern countries and Switzerland.

In addition, the IMF will be informed about the issuance of country reports as per the United Nations Anti-Corruption Convention requirements.

Pakistan is obligated to submit an expert assessment report on the effectiveness of anti-corruption institutions, a condition set by the IMF that falls under the responsibilities of the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Law.

Discussions will also encompass strategies to enhance the efficiency of government institutions and progress privatization efforts.

The IMF delegation, which arrived in Islamabad yesterday, has already engaged in discussions with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

Since its launch on March 12th of the previous year, Riyadh Air, owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has received more than 1 million online job applications, as announced by the airline on Wednesday. Applications have poured in from over 100 countries as the airline worked on building its team, conducting multiple recruitment events in cities like London, Paris, Dubai, and Riyadh.

The airline is set to commence operations in 2025 with hopes of contributing to Saudi Arabia's economic diversification, job creation, and Vision 2030 objectives. It aims to boost non-oil GDP by $20 billion and create over 200,000 jobs globally and domestically.

Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, remarked, “2023 marked a significant milestone for Riyadh Air, and we take immense pride in the progress achieved over the past 12 months as we commemorate our first anniversary. Dubai has emerged as a premier destination for art, supercar, watch, and luxury item collectors. As a result, numerous auction houses now opt to conduct their auctions in Dubai to achieve optimal selling prices for their rarest offerings. RM Sotheby’s inaugural auction of rare cars and watches in Dubai exceeded $17 million (Dh62 million) in sales.

A standout piece among the watches was the Rolex Daytona UAE, which fetched an impressive $300,000 (Dh1.1 million). Crafted circa 1978, this timepiece showcases the UAE coat of arms and bears the Arabic signature of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who, during that period, served as the Minister of Defence and is presently the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai.

Aside from the luxury watches, the auction featured three supercars that each sold for over Dh10 million. The most notable was the 2016 Koenigsegg Agera RSR, one of only three in existence, which was acquired for $3.38 million (Dh12.4 million). Boasting a 5.0 V-8 engine generating 1,160 horsepower, this supercar had a mileage of just 993 kilometres.
