🚨𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 “𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝘁𝗛𝘂𝗯 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹” 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀
Sangfor Farsight Labs recently observed a campaign where attackers disguise malware as useful 𝗚𝗶𝘁𝗛𝘂𝗯-𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀, luring technical users into running 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗖 𝟮.𝟬 — an infostealer built to steal saved browser passwords, cookies, crypto wallet data, and other sensitive information.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀:
1️⃣ 𝗜𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
The malware is packaged as useful tools on GitHub. In many developer environments, GitHub traffic is already allowed, helping the download and related communication blend into normal workflow instead of triggering immediate network-level alarms.

2️⃣ 𝗜𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮 “𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗻” 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸
The malware can inflate itself to more than 1GB, a technique that may cause some antivirus tools to skip inspection.

3️⃣ 𝗜𝘁 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿
Instead of relying on one fixed address, the malware can retrieve updated command-and-control details, helping attackers stay connected even after known indicators are blocked.
