IT Administrator Job Responsibilities
System Maintenance and Management
Install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, and network systems.
Monitor and troubleshoot servers, operating systems, and other IT infrastructure.
Ensure the availability, performance, and reliability of IT systems.
Network Administration
Manage network security, including firewalls, VPNs, and access controls.
Perform regular updates, backups, and security audits for network systems.
Set up and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure.
User Support
Provide technical support to employees, resolve hardware and software issues.
Train staff on new technologies and ensure proper usage.
Maintain an inventory of IT assets and document user issues.
Data Security and Compliance
Ensure data protection through encryption and regular backups.
Monitor systems for unauthorized access or vulnerabilities.
Implement cybersecurity measures and update policies as needed.
IT Strategy and Implementation
Plan and implement new technologies to improve efficiency.
Evaluate and recommend upgrades for hardware, software, and network systems.
Coordinate with third-party vendors for IT-related procurement and support.
Disaster Recovery
Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans.
Ensure business continuity by regularly testing recovery protocols.
Documentation
Maintain accurate records of system configurations, licenses, and procedures.
Create documentation for system operations and troubleshooting guides.
Skills Required for an IT Administrator
Technical Requirements
System Administration
Proficiency in managing Windows, Linux, or MacOS systems.
Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policies.
Networking
Knowledge of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, and network troubleshooting.
Experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
Security Expertise
Understanding of cybersecurity protocols and tools.
Experience with antivirus, malware detection, and SIEM tools.
Cloud Computing
Experience with Fortinet, Firewall, & Google Cloud.
Familiarity with hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Virtualization
Knowledge of VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms.
Database Management
Basic knowledge of SQL, Oracle, or other database systems.
Scripting and Automation
Skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automating tasks.
Backup and Recovery
Experience with tools like Veeam, Acronis, or Windows Backup.
Soft Skills
Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
Communication: Clear verbal and written communication with technical and non-technical staff.
Team Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
Time Management: Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Adaptability: Stay updated with the latest technologies and adapt to changing requirements.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Certifications (Preferred):
CompTIA Network+ or Security+
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
ITIL Foundation Certification
VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
