Recently, there has been a deeply troubling incident in Kolkata, India, where a 31-year-old female trainee doctor was brutally r***d and murdered inside a government hospital on August 9, 2024. The victim was found dead in a seminar hall after a grueling 36-hour shift, with severe injuries indicating a brutal assault.
This incident has reignited the debate about women's safety at workplaces.
I myself written a poem to reflects the emotional turmoil and the desperate questions that might have haunted her in her final moments. I tried to capture the struggle and the injustice she faced in poem below:
"Why was I born a girl, in this world so cruel?
Where my dreams were shattered, in a night so foul.
I came to learn, to heal, to grow,
But faced a fate, I did not know.
I worked so hard, through night and day,
But found no peace, in any way.
I was just a girl, with hopes and dreams,
But was caught in a world, that tears at the seams.
Why was I given life, only to face this pain?
Why was I left to die, in a world so vain?
Where was the shield, to protect my soul?
Why was my life, ripped away, left in a hole?
I wanted to live, to laugh, to love,
But now I soar, in the skies above.
I fought so hard, I tried to resist,
But they broke my spirit, with a cruel twist.
Oh, why wasn't I born, in a world more kind?
Why was my life taken, and my soul confined?"
