🚨 When you hear a siren, don’t panic take the right steps.

Through the Kabul River Early Warning System (KREWS) initiative, we are working with communities along the Kabul River Basin to improve flood preparedness, timely communication, and community resilience.

An early warning siren is there to give communities valuable time to act. Stay calm, prepare your emergency bag, gather your family, and make sure everyone knows where to go.

After leaving your home, follow the instructions of your VCDMC, District Administration, PDMA, and other relevant authorities. Move towards designated safe locations and avoid unnecessary movement outside your community.

Most importantly, stay connected with the people around you. Support children, elderly people, persons with disabilities, and anyone who may need assistance. Continue following official instructions until authorities confirm that it is safe.

KREWS is not only about installing sensors, sirens, and monitoring systems. It is about making sure that every warning results in timely, informed, and coordinated community action.

Hear the warning. Stay calm. Follow instructions. Support your community. Act early.

Early warning is not only about rising water levels it is also about protecting people, reducing panic, and strengthening communities.

The Kabul River Early Warning System (KREWS), developed through collaboration between WeatherWalay, GIZ, PDMA, and BaKhabar Kissan (BKK), aims to strengthen flood preparedness and deliver timely warnings to vulnerable communities along the Kabul River.

During a flood, the challenge is not only physical.

Parents worry about their children.
Children worry about their parents.
Families worry about their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones.

In these moments, even one reassuring word, one verified message, or one helping hand can make a difference.

Look around you. Check on your neighbours, elderly people, vulnerable families, and anyone who may need support. A resilient community is built when people look out for one another.

At the same time, misinformation can increase fear and confusion. During emergencies, rely only on updates from the District Administration, VCDMCs, and other official sources.

For weather updates, communities can also stay informed through the WeatherWalay App.

Because a strong community is not simply one that protects itself
it is one that stands together and helps others when it matters most.
