We had an export system that took 5 minutes locally but in production, the same export took over two hours.

At first we thought the only problem was S3 latency.

We fixed it with parallel downloads, asyncio, semaphores, and connection pool tuning. Then connection pool exhaustion, worker starvation, and monolithic jobs showed up.

That’s the part of backend engineering people learn quickly in production. When you fix one bottleneck, you will find the next.

Almost a year ago, we partnered with Daniel Emery & Brava Roof Tile to build an on-field AI support system and Crew Training platform that can make the lives of technical support staff and managers easier.

And today, both systems are fully operational, in the field, actively being used by professionals.

Adoption is the main question that comes to mind whenever we talk about digital transformation for roofing businesses, and this is a great example of how perfectly executed transformation initiatives can result in positive outcomes for businesses.

Superset, Prefect, marimo, Strapi, Agenda, Payload.

We worked on everything from SQL injection and expensive queries to broken deployments, PDF exports, API tooling, and race conditions.

Small fixes individually.

AI image generation is becoming too easy, but matching it to the real data, handling it's hallucinations and keeping the output consistent is where these product are failing.

Pretty image ≠ usable product.

Syeda Fatima wrote about one of the engineering problems she ran into while building an AI landscape planning tool. The AI could design beautiful gardens, but a slight problem was it was also suggesting imaginary ones that didn't exist in the inventory.

So she redesigned the pipeline instead, and reversed the whole process. Sometimes making AI do less is what makes the product do more, funny how that works.

Open source continues to be one of our favorite parts of the month.

It keeps us close to real production problems, and gives us a way to give back to the tools we use every day.

This month, Abdul Rehman, Usama Ali, and M. Ahsan Farooq opened 12 pull requests across Apache Superset, Apache Airflow, Prefect, and Zulip. Six are already merged, and the rest are moving through review.

From performance improvements and reliability fixes to security and developer experience, these are the kinds of changes that quietly make software better and way less annoying to use.

The way product designers work is changing.

Instead of waiting until development begins to think through technical constraints, designers are increasingly doing that thinking much earlier in the process, with AI becoming part of how ideas are explored and validated.

While working on a recent product, Fatima experienced this shift firsthand. As she worked through the feature, she was already thinking about constraints, edge cases, interactions, data flow, and how the product should behave, the kind of product and engineering thinking she would previously have relied on a developer for.

The experience changed the way she approached her work and inspired her to write about why she believes AI is creating a new role: the Design Engineer.

This past weekend was truly something special.

We brought together a room full of people who share a real excitement about the future of AI and business.
The biggest shift happening with AI right now is that people are no longer interested in theory. They want to know what teams are actually doing, what’s practical, what’s changing workflows, and what’s just noise.

That’s exactly what we wanted No Excuse AI to feel like.

It was not a typical workshop or another AI meetup, but a transparent look at how the RipeSeed team is using AI every day across operations, marketing, sales, and creative work. Our team shared how AI is changing the way they manage clients, communicate, build systems, and deliver work, along with the practical lessons they’ve learned along the way.

70+ people showed up, shared ideas, asked tough questions, challenged each other’s perspectives, and stayed until the very end, which honestly showed us how needed these kinds of practical and open discussions around AI really are.

Huge shoutout to our incredible team for pulling this all together so quickly and executing the entire event seamlessly.

It was a truly rewarding weekend for all of us.
