The AI Risks Nobody Talks About

Today was sobering.

I spent the day researching what can go WRONG with AI. And there's a lot.

1. Hallucinations: A lawyer cited 6 fake court cases generated by ChatGPT. He's now facing sanctions.

2. Bias: Amazon built an AI recruiter that discriminated against women. They scrapped the entire project.

3. Privacy: ChatGPT had a bug that exposed other users' conversation history, including sensitive data.

4. Over-reliance: Teams becoming so dependent on AI they lose critical thinking skills.

5. Job displacement: Call centers already reducing staff by 50-70% with AI chatbots.

Here's what I realized:

Most "AI consultants" only talk about the benefits. They're basically sales people.

A REAL consultant talks about risks AND mitigation strategies.

As I transition from developer to AI consultant, I'm learning that my value isn't just "implement AI."

It's: "Implement AI RESPONSIBLY while managing risks."

My framework:

1️⃣ Risk Assessment
→ Evaluate each AI use case for potential issues
→ Score by likelihood and impact

2️⃣ Mitigation Design
→ Build safeguards into the solution
→ Human review layers where needed
→ Clear policies and training

3️⃣ Start Small
→ Pilot with low-risk use cases
→ Prove value before scaling
→ Learn from mistakes cheaply

4️⃣ Monitor Continuously
→ Track outcomes across demographics
→ Watch for drift or degradation
→ Adjust based on real results

The honest truth?

Some AI risks are unavoidable. AI WILL change jobs. It WILL sometimes be wrong. Privacy IS a concern.

But we can MANAGE these risks, not eliminate them.

That's the difference between an AI salesperson and an AI consultant.

One ignores risks to close deals.
The other addresses them to build trust.

I'm choosing the second path.
