The HERMOSA Consortium continued its Pre-Acceleration Program with the 2nd Pre-Acceleration Session on September 20, 2026, featuring a Business Diagnostic Session facilitated by Upgrade Innolab.

The session focused on gaining a deeper understanding of each startup, including their current business situation, needs, and areas for development. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, the diagnostic process aims to identify the specific needs of each enterprise and develop curated interventions tailored to their individual growth journey.

Participating startups engaged with senior industry experts from Upgrade Innolabโ€™s network, who provided insights and perspectives relevant to their respective businesses.

This session marks an important step toward developing targeted support that will help each startup address its specific challenges, strengthen its capabilities, and move forward in its entrepreneurial journey.

The HERMOSA Pre-Acceleration Program for Cohort 3 officially kicked off through an onboarding session conducted in partnership with Upgrade Innolab on September 13, 2026, setting the stage for the startupsโ€™ journey toward building, validating, and growing their ventures.

The session was facilitated by Richard Day, President of Upgrade Innolab, who introduced the cohort to the fundamentals of startup acceleration and what it takes to progress through structured startup programs.

Among the key topics discussed were the distinction between incubators and accelerators, how startups are evaluated and admitted into accelerator programs, and an introduction to the Innolab Launchpad Pre-Accelerator Program that will guide the cohort throughout their pre-acceleration journey.

This marks the beginning of an intensive learning and development journey where our HERMOSA startups will be challenged to strengthen their ideas, validate their businesses, and take meaningful steps toward becoming investment- and market-ready ventures.

The AZUL Hub Technology Business Incubator of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industryโ€“Zamboanga City Office (DTI-ZCO) as lead organizer, facilitated the Coconut Innovation & Start-Up Challenge held on September 3โ€“4, 2026 at Palacio del Sur, Zamboanga City, as part of National Coconut Week 2026.

Through a series of workshops and hands-on coaching, AZUL Hub guided participating student teams in transforming coconut industry challenges into potential startup opportunities. Mr. Francis Arroyo led sessions on Innovation Mindset, Design Thinking, and Startup Ideation, while Mr. Ralph Jorline Chua facilitated Business Model Development & Idea Validation. Mr. Mario S. Rodriguez, Director and Project Leader of ACENDโ€“AZUL Hub, led the session on Pitch Deck Preparation & Effective Pitching Techniques. The AZUL Hub team also conducted the Team Coaching & Mentoring Workshop to help teams refine their ideas and prepare for the final pitching.

The two-day challenge culminated in the recognition of The Coconut Project as Champion, followed by Erika and Art as 1st Runner-Up and Bark N' Purr Treats as 2nd Runner-Up.

With students from Winzelle International College and Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) participating, the activity highlighted how young innovators can apply their knowledge and skills to address real industry challenges and create new opportunities within the coconut value chain.

Through collaboration between DTI-ZCO and AZUL Hub, the challenge provided students with the tools, guidance, and mentoring to take their ideas from problems to possibilities, and possibilities to potential ventures.

The sessions delved into the Lean Canvas Model, providing participants with a structured approach to understanding and validating key aspects of a startupโ€™s business model. Mentors also explored Technology Readiness Level (TRL), Market Readiness Level (MRL), and Investment Readiness Level (IRL)โ€”important frameworks for evaluating a startupโ€™s technology, market potential, and preparedness for investment.

The day also highlighted the importance of effective pitching, equipping mentors with insights and approaches to help startups communicate their value proposition, potential, and opportunities more clearly and convincingly.

Through these discussions and activities, participants gained practical perspectives that can help them guide startups from idea development and validation toward market entry, growth, and investment readiness.

The first day featured two key sessions: โ€œThe Philippine Startup Landscape & TBI Dynamicsโ€ and โ€œThe Startup Life Cycle: From Idea to Market.โ€ These sessions provided valuable insights into the Philippine startup ecosystem, the role of Technology Business Incubators (TBIs), and the different stages of a startupโ€™s journeyโ€”from developing an idea to entering and growing in the market.

The discussions set the foundation for a three-day learning experience designed to strengthen mentorsโ€™ capabilities and equip them with the knowledge and practical approaches needed to effectively guide and support startups across the region.
