BLAST LINE - "Ghosts of Affection"
Weekly drops of emotional impact — no warning, just wreckage. 💣

Sometimes, it’s not the person we miss — it’s the version of ourselves we got to be when they loved us. We miss feeling wanted, chosen, important. We miss the warmth of their attention, the illusion of safety it gave us. When they leave, it’s not just their absence we feel — it’s the absence of who we were in their presence.

That’s why the grief lingers, even if the relationship wasn’t right. Because we’re not just mourning the connection — we’re mourning the identity it gave us. A version of us that felt full, for a moment. Seen, for once. And when they’re gone, that version disappears too.

We call it heartbreak, but sometimes, it’s something quieter and lonelier. It’s not about losing them. It’s about losing who we thought we were when they stayed.

People rarely fall in love with you. They fall in love with how they feel about themselves when they’re with you — more seen, more desired, more whole. You become a mirror, reflecting back their ideal self. And as long as they love that reflection, they stay.

But when the illusion fades — when love starts asking for depth, truth, or accountability — the version of themselves they admired begins to disappear. It’s not that you changed. It’s that the mirror stopped flattering them. And they begin to pull away.

You think they’re rejecting you, but they’re really mourning the loss of who they got to be in your presence. It was never about you. It was about their reflection in your love. That’s why it hurts so deeply — because they didn’t shatter your heart. They shattered the mirror you never asked to hold.

Sometimes, people don’t actually break your heart — they just reveal the hole that was already there. We point to them, the way they left, the way they changed, but more often, they only exposed what we tried so hard to cover up. The ache we feel isn’t always about losing them. It’s about losing the illusion that they would finally make us feel whole, seen, or safe. That maybe, this time, someone would choose us in the exact way we’ve always longed to be chosen. That’s why it hurts even when they weren’t cruel — because we weren’t grieving a person; we were grieving a story. A hope. A quiet, desperate belief that someone else could fix what’s been hollow inside us for years. Love didn’t shatter us. Expectation did.

I know you’re loyal — but don’t kid yourself. Anyone can fall into temptation. It’s not about being a “bad” person. It’s about what you allow yourself to get close to.

So how do you stay away from that line?

Stop entertaining people just because they’re attractive.
Stop putting yourself in intimate one-on-one situations with people who aren’t your partner.
Stop showing up in places where something could happen — the drinks, the flirty vibes, that one person you know you shouldn’t be around.
Stop keeping convos alive that don’t need to be.

None of this is cheating — but all of it could lead there.

The circumstances around you aren’t unfair—you are. You EITHER have the courage and strength TO DESTROY YOUR OWN ILLUSIONS and DO WHAT'S REQUIRED, OR YOU DON'T. Society’s OBSESSION AND FASCINATION on "SELF-LOVE" and "BALANCE" is a front that indulges mediocrity. Balance is for those TOO AFRAID to ignite their passion and fully commit. If you’re unwilling to endure suffering, make sacrifices, or push yourself to the breaking point in pursuit of greatness, perhaps YOU DON'T DESERVE IT. Is this harsh? Maybe. True? Absolutely.
