Did you know you can only erase so much data from an SSD? 💣😮 For average day users and gamers it's something you never have to worry about, but for people who use SSDs in extreme situations, like Server environments, or heavy workstations, it's an important factor when looking at what SSD to buy.

SSD erase life is typically measured in TBW, (Total Bytes Written, or sometimes called Terabytes Written). It's effectively how many Terabytes can be erased from an SSD before flash cells start to go into read only mode.

Most consumer SSDs like Crucial sells, will last an average user over a hundred years in erase life, but if you put that same SSD in a server it could last only a few months. That's why enterprise SSDs like the Micron 9300 have TBWs typically measured in Petabytes, not Terabytes. The largest Micron 9300 has an erase life of 74,000 Terabytes, that's a handful of Call of Duty updates.
