🚀 I built and deployed an offline-first Ebook Web App
I recently developed Ebook Web App, a mobile-friendly platform for reading Bible commentaries online and offline.
The idea came from a simple problem: many valuable Christian resources are available only as large PDFs, old webpages, or formats that are difficult to navigate on a phone. They also often require a continuous internet connection.
The application currently includes Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible, organized by volume, Bible book, and chapter.
Readers can:
📖 Browse commentaries by Bible book and chapter
📱 Install the website on a phone like an app
⬇️ Download books or individual chapters for offline reading
🌐 Continue reading even with limited internet access
🔄 Navigate easily between chapters
On the technical side, I built it using:
Python, Django, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, PWA technologies, Gunicorn, Podman containers, and Nginx reverse proxy.
This project also gave me practical experience in:
Importing and restructuring large XML-based publications
Designing reusable commentary and ebook models
Progressive Web App installation
Service workers and browser caching
Offline-first application design
Containerized production deployment
The application is currently in beta, and Matthew Henry’s Commentary is the first collection. Future improvements will include search, bookmarks, reading progress, additional public-domain commentaries, and better offline library management.

I would appreciate feedback from developers, pastors, Bible teachers, students, and readers who regularly use digital study materials.
Read ebook and commentary collections online or offline.
