Tumbaga, took a bold move and proposed the new program Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) major in Computer Technology which was then authorized to operate under Board Resolution No. 95-045. The proponent believed that Computer Technology will create an impact in development of manpower because the age of computers gradually unfolds as the trend of the time. This was the 13th prog
ram of the College that catered to the needs of the clientele in the region and nation as a whole. Two years later, the College proposed another new program, the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology to cope with the changing issues and trends that affected Information and Communications Technology. The BS Information Technology program was properly deliberated and through the endorsement of the University Academic Council, it was approved by the Board of regents in 1997 through a Board resolution No. 97 – 055. To determine its identity as a new program, it was separated from the College of Technology and later became and operated as an independent unit called “Institute.” It was then named as the Institute of Information Technology (IIT) by the former Pres. Corpus as per Board approval. The first administration was organized to operate under Board Resolution No. 99-028, dated April 26, 1999 with Prof. Tumbaga as the Institute Director and Prof. Eduardo Corpuz as Assistant Director. One semester after its full implementation and operation as an Institute, reorganization came in sometime in November 1999. At present, Dr. Eduardo C. Corpuz is the Director of the Institute. For the last 7 years, the curriculum was revised, updated, and enriched based on industry needs and as per CHED mandates (C.M.O. #53), TESDA (E.O. # 358), as well as inputs from other cooperating agencies and linkages. The BS Information Technology program was re-accredited Level II (2nd Survey) by AACCUP last August 8, 2008 and identified and awarded as one of the Centers of Development (COD) in Information Technology in the Philippines by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in cooperation with the Technical Panel for Information Technology Education (TPITE) last March 23, 2007 at the Bayview Park Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
