Fifteen years ago, John Dapapac walked into Intelassist for his very first job. Today, he's celebrating his 15th year with us! ๐
He joined in 2011 in estimating: reviewing project requirements, doing takeoffs, preparing pricing, and making sure every quote went out accurately and on time. The early team called themselves "Altabera," after ALT + TAB, because "your only job is to control ALT + TAB." (ifykyk)
Today his role is much broader. He reviews projects, resolves issues, coordinates with the team, and is often the person colleagues turn to for a second opinion. The biggest shift, he says, is perspective.
"During my first year, I was mostly asking, 'What do I need to finish today?' Now, I find myself asking, 'What does the team need to get done, and how can I help make sure we get there?'"
What he's proudest of isn't a single project. It's the trust he earned to handle more complex work over time. "For me, that trust is an accomplishment in itself."
It hasn't always been easy. From 2018 to 2022, John faced a personal health struggle he calls the most difficult chapter of his career. With the support of family, bosses, colleagues, friends, and his faith in God, he rebuilt. "Look where I am now. I'm still here. Still learning. Still contributing. Still moving forward."
What kept him here? The people. Teammates became friends, mentors, kumares, kumpadres, and even family. To everyone who's been part of his journey: salamat.
Outside work, John stays grounded through family, travel, weightlifting, running, community service, photography, and collecting toys and sneakers. His advice to his first-year self? Save your money, travel, take care of your health, and "don't spend all your money on shoes!" ๐
For anyone joining Intelassist today: "Take pride in what you do. Care about the people you work with. Be genuine."
"You'll spend a lot of time at work, so make sure the person you are at work is still the person you're proud to be outside of it."
In his words: "The story isn't over yet." Congratulations on 15 years, John! ๐
