O-CIA Sige

O-CIA Sige An online information platform that will teach individuals about the nature of internet addiction, its importance, and how to handle and overcome it.

O-CIA Sige is a pun inspired from the famous Filipino phrase, "Oh siya, sige," which translates "Okay, fine" in English. The proponents chose this phrase because it has a catchy sound to it and appears to explain the project's goal, which is to make things better by preventing internet addiction. Aside from this, the CIA is an acronym meaning Controlling Internet Addiction.

Internet addiction is one of the most serious problems today, especially now that almost everyone has access to it, and it has a particularly negative impact on youngsters. Because our technology is always changing, many of us are becoming addicted to it. When you spend too much time on the internet, you may forget about a responsibility or a task. It emphasizes that we should be conscious if we are already addicted to the internet because it has such a significant impact on our everyday lives that we must devise a strategy to avoid becoming engrossed in it. What, though, is the true definition of internet addiction?

Internet addiction is characterized as an undesirable activity that interferes with and causes stress in one's personal, school, and/or job life, according to a study. Compulsive Internet use, like other addictions, entirely controls a person's life. Addicts struggle to maintain control over their conduct, which leads to despair and increased involvement in their addictive pattern. Addicts get reliant on the internet to feel normal after a while. Furthermore, their excessive use of the internet causes them to neglect vital tasks. And they have no idea that they are already shirking their responsibilities.

Because most of us pay more attention to the internet, it's critical that we understand our limits and the consequences of abusing it. We need to figure out what will help and lead us to avoid becoming addicted to the internet, and we need to prioritize more important things. As a student, for example, we should focus on accomplishing activities rather than being enticed by technology

According to a study, the best preventative is educating on the difference between legitimate Internet usage and misuse, as well as raising awareness. It is also necessary to have a clear knowledge of the value of social interaction. Face-to-face contact, in the end, contributes to a sense of psychological safety and satisfaction. Finally, a person should have a general understanding of the community's social activities and events. Divert attention and engage in a variety of activities, which is an excellent example of social interaction. It's difficult to break free from ingrained habits, and it's much more difficult to break off from the comfort of the internet. However, you may prevent reverting to old behaviors by focusing on the goals you want to attain and creating a strategy.

Nowadays, practically everyone relies on the internet. Social media controls the majority of their life. Especially when the epidemic begins and the new standard is enforced. Not just students, but also a large number of adults, are addicted to the internet. It is so concerning that the majority of them are already unwell as a result of their excessive usage of technologies. We can't hide the reality that they now rely on the internet to live their life. To add to the confusion, let us define internet addiction.

Martha Shaw et al., stated in their research that internet addiction is defined as excessive or poorly managed preoccupations, desires, or behaviors related to computer use and internet access, which cause impairment or suffering. Technology has the greatest influence on humans. We can't dispute that it's vital anymore because communication is so much simpler with the internet. But what is not proper is spending too much on it, seldom doing anything necessary like eating at the appropriate time, sleeping 8-10 hours, and going to bed at exactly 10 p.m.

Furthermore, in general, internet addiction includes blogging, gaming, social networking, online shopping, and other activities. It is not usually the quantity of time spent on the internet that is problematic, but rather how the internet is utilized. But, as individuals, we must encourage each of us to be careful in our use of technology. Let us find a method to manage and avoid exacerbating the problem. Avoid abusing yourself, and maintain discipline at all times.

Ways to overcome internet addiction

1. Know the Cause
- What is it about the internet that makes you so addicted? Is it because you're so depressed? Or do you have no one with whom to discuss your feelings? Or are you looking for social acceptance? These are some of the probable consequences of excessive internet usage. Find out why you're upset and come up with a solution. You might be able to tackle such issues on your own after you understand the feelings that contribute to your excessive use of the internet.

2. Limit the Smartphone use
- You can start keeping your distance once you recognize that internet addiction is terrible for you and that it can control your life. You can limit your online duration to 30 minutes and set certain basic rules for yourself, such as not accessing the internet after a specific time each day. This will keep you all in balance and under control.

3. Socialize
- Get off the internet and share some real-life experiences. Invite your pals over and engage in some enjoyable activities with them. Make time for your loved ones and get out more frequently. Spend time with them, do things you enjoy, and prioritize your real-life relationships over your online ones.

4. Follow a Routine
- A routine helps you stay organized and in control. The key to overcoming internet addiction is time management. Along with accessing the internet, you'll need to create a schedule and make some time for a variety of other activities. The need to check your phone after every brief period will be eliminated in this manner.

5. Prioritize your Needs
- Prioritize the tasks you want to complete first. If you're a student, you can decide to finish your homework first and then do everything else, including using the internet afterward. This way, you'll be able to see how your online addiction was causing you to miss out on vital aspects of your life.

6. Change Communication Patterns
- Change the practice of texting your friend all day and meet them to talk to them directly face-to-face. Similarly, if you are addicted to internet games, you can substitute outdoor games for them. You can also go to video game stores with your friends and play there to keep your hands off your computer and consoles.

7.Find Activities Outside
- You can perform a lot of things without using a computer or a smart gadget. To feel worthy and invest your quality time. You can join a sports team, volunteer programs, civic clubs, and communities These activities necessitate going outside and saying busy for several hours, As a result, it diverts your attention away from what's going on on the internet. You can also feel fulfilled without using the internet by sharing your emotions with the people around you.

8. Seek Therapy
- Now that you've admitted you have a problem, why not take action about it? You can ask a trustworthy friend or seek professional help. In that way, you'll be able to talk about the feelings that trigger you to go online over and over again. When you express these feelings with someone else, it helps you to open up, and you can then set up some behavioral goals with them to keep you on track.

We are now in the generation where the internet is a norm. Look around you, everywhere, different gadgets will be there. A kid, teen, adult, or elders, you can see everyoneโ€™s eyes on the screens. None of us can conceal this issue and it worries us because of the numerous adverse effects it brings. To be specific, what alarms us more is the fact that the vast majority of internet users arenโ€™t fully aware of what Internet addiction really is. If it is a disease, what are the good or bad effects it may do to our health, and other important things. So now, what really is internet addiction?

According to thriveworks.com, Internet addiction also called compulsive computer use, internet dependence, and pathological internet use is defined as the compulsive or frequent busyness on the internet regardless of the harmful consequences. Recall the times you stayed up all night watching videos on Facebook, reacting to different posts, and even searching for some stuff on Google out of your late night curiosity. How about the day you got absent from your school or work because you chose to lay down on bed and play online games all day? Or the conflict you had with your mother because you failed to perform the household chore she asked you to do. Maybe, we can say that you are an internet addict.

However, there isnโ€™t a particular set of criteria one must face to be diagnosed with internet addiction, because based on the experts, it is not technically codified as a disorder in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). But personally, if we come to experience some symptoms mentioned from the previous paragraph, we may have a problem and we shouldnโ€™t just relax. Even though it is not yet classified as a disease, let us now stop the possibility for it to be a disease. Now that we are seeing a little hole, let us find a way to stop it from being bigger and making the situation even worse. Internet usage is not really bad, but addiction to it is. Keep the discipline with us, prevent us from abusing ourselves, and still keep a healthy lifestyle. Encourage ourselves to be aware of the facts, be mindful of ourselves as well as the others, and if we can participate in the advocacies such as our advocacy of anti-internet addiction, cease every opportunity to do so.

Internet Addiction; an Overview
by: Michelle Montilla

The Internet is a wild and amazing place that has forever changed the way we live, study, and work - but when a person can't strike a balance between online and offline time, it can cause mental health issues.

Many of us have had this sensation: our eyes are glazed over, our backs are slumped, and we can't seem to quit staring at a screen. This is referred to as "online addiction." There is no universally accepted definition of internet addiction; however, it is widely accepted that people who are addicted to the Internet have difficulty fulfilling personal and professional obligations as a result of their online activities, and that their use of the Internet strains relationships with family and friends. When people who are hooked to the Internet's access are restricted, they often suffer negative emotions or withdrawal symptoms.

People become addicted to the internet for three reasons: accessibility, control, and excitement entice the addicted person to keep using it. Because of technological advancements, getting online is now relatively easy. People can go online whenever they want and without informing others, giving them a sense of control. People get a "high" from going online, particularly the anticipation of bidding in online auctions, gambling, or playing games.

Internet addiction is undeniable that excessive internet use promotes hazardous behaviors, frequently in the same manner as recognized addictions do. If you're worried that you're doing too much, seek help as soon as possible. Individuals, families, and especially growing children and teenagers can be affected by internet addiction. Obtaining assistance might be difficult, but it can make a significant difference in your quality of life.
