Alinco DX-10 Modifications:
Alinco DX-10 modifications typically focus on expanding the frequency range to include the 11-meter band (25.615–28.305 MHz) and adjusting internal settings for better SSB/AM performance. Key modifications include a button-sequence frequency expansion (holding Func+EMG while turning on), adjusting the hidden Mic Gain ("ICG") menu setting, and utilizing the internal SWR meter.
Alinco DX-10 Frequency Expansion Mod
This mod expands the operating range to cover 11-meter CB frequencies (bands A-F).
Procedure:
Turn the radio off.
Press and hold the FUNC (Function) and EMG (Emergency) buttons simultaneously.
Turn the radio on while continuing to hold the buttons.
Select the desired band range using the channel selector (typically setting it to a specific band number, often '1' or '2' depending on the tutorial, to open 25.615 - 28.305 MHz).
Turn the radio off and on again to confirm.
Operational & Performance Tweaks
Fixing No Audio/Modulation (SSB/AM/FM): If there is a carrier but no modulation, adjust the hidden "ICG" (Microphone Gain) setting. Press the MENU key and navigate to "ICG," then set it to a value between 31 and 32, as it is often set too low by default.
Checking SWR: You can use the internal SWR meter to check antenna performance. Hold the FUNC button, navigate to the "TLD" menu, and select "SR" to display the SWR. Note: This is an estimated reading and not a precision instrument.
Backlight Modification: Some users reported that the LCD display backlighting is quite dim. Some operators have reported using aftermarket solutions to enhance visibility, though it is often considered a hardware limitation of the original design.
Notes:
This radio is widely considered a re-badged version of the CRE 8900.
Ensure the antenna is tuned before transmitting, as high SWR can trigger protection, displaying "S high".
