That is the broader business lesson from AMLC’s Guidelines on Transaction Reporting and Compliance Submissions, or GoTRACS.

Many systems are built to accept payments and display totals. What developers sometimes miss is the evidence behind every transaction:

• Consistent customer and transaction identifiers
• Complete, accurate, and searchable fields
• Time-stamped approvals and status changes
• Documented review, correction, and escalation procedures
• Records retrievable without rebuilding them from chats and spreadsheets
• Clear responsibility for checking and validating data

GoTRACS directly concerns covered persons and their AMLC reporting duties. It does not mean every ordinary merchant must automatically file Covered Transaction Reports or Suspicious Transaction Reports.

Whether an entity is a covered person—and what it must report—depends on the AMLA, applicable regulations, and its actual business activities.

But every growing business should learn from the direction of regulation:

“We have the data somewhere” is no longer good enough.
