I took these photos back in January 2023 and completely forgot to blog about this place until this week. Three years just disappeared and this restaurant stayed buried in my files the whole time.

𝐀 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐈 𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐆𝐎𝐓
This restaurant runs on wood, from the beams up top down to every table and bench inside. There's a round table tucked beside a shelf full of w**e bottles and framed art, a sign by the entrance that still has me curious, plus a long hall built for big groups with pillars running through it. Every corner had something worth looking at twice and I keep wondering why I never wrote about it back then.

𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒
I'm keeping the name under wraps for now because the full story deserves its own post.

So consider this your heads up. The blog post is coming soon with the name, the location and everything I remember from that visit, so keep an eye on this page.

Pick your poison, because this shelf at The Reef Bar in Camayan Beach Resort Subic had a bottle for whoever you are drinking with this weekend.

𝐀 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐇 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆
These photos go back to April 18 this year, part of the backlog I am finally clearing out while backing up old shots. Three kinds of Jack Daniel's, three kinds of rum and a lineup of dark wh***ey, all caught on the same bar counter at The Reef in Camayan Beach Resort Subic. I did not even drink a drop that night since I am not a drinker myself, never even tried it back in college, but the bottles lined up like that were too good not to keep for later.

𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐎𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄 𝐈𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍
Whether you are a wh***ey person, a rum person or just someone who likes a good bar photo, one of these probably caught your eye.

So tell me which bottle you would grab first if you were standing at that counter and remember that whatever you pick this weekend, pace yourself and drink responsibly.

Ever felt smaller after being with someone and you couldn't even explain why? That's the thing! It never shows up on the first date. It shows up later, in the small gaps. Trust that feeling before you explain it away.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞
Some people make you feel chosen from day one. Constant texts. Big gestures. Plans made before you've even settled in. That intensity has a name. And it's not romance, not really. It's control dressed up as devotion. Watch how someone reacts the first time you say no. That one moment tells you more than weeks of sweet texts ever could.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦
Boredom when you talk about your day. A quick turn back to their favorite subject, which is always themselves. This is where the real pattern starts to show. Empathy's usually the first thing to go.

You don't owe anyone a long explanation for choosing your own peace. Once you see the pattern, walking away quietly is allowed too, no drama needed.

I always end up ordering the same two dishes at Modern Shanghai and I never feel one bit of guilt about it. Everything else on the table can stay where it is.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐖𝐎 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐒 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄
The sautéed water spinach with minced pork and the spinach soup are the two things I go back for every single visit. The kangkong stays crunchy with crispy garlic on top and the soup is light and clean, the kind you want before or after a heavy meal. I skip most of the heavier mains just to leave room for these two.

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐈 𝐀𝐋𝐖𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐏
Boiled peanuts show up almost every time as a starter and I still don't reach for them, appetizers just aren't my thing. The salt and pepper chicken on the side is good too but it's never the star of the meal for me.

At this point Modern Shanghai staff already know what I'm ordering before I even open the menu and honestly that's exactly how I like it.

Ever leave a conversation feeling more drained than when it started? That flat, worn out feeling is trying to tell you something and it has nothing to do with being too sensitive.

Some people nod along without really listening. Their eyes stay on you but their attention checks out the moment the phone buzzes or the topic shifts away from them. It feels like talking to a wall trained to look interested and that gets old fast. Then there is the friend who talks big but never follows through, the one who always says next time and somehow that time never comes.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀
We put together five signs worth watching for so you can notice them early, plus a simple way to protect your time without feeling guilty about it.

Nobody who checks their phone the second you start talking deserves your best energy and noticing the pattern early is the whole point of protecting your peace.

Went through old photos and found these from my very first trip to Guam back in 2013. I still remember exactly why I fell in love with this place.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐏 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐓 𝐀𝐋𝐋
This was the beach that made me stop and just stare, water so clear I could see straight down to my feet. A few steps from the hotel and it already felt like a different world. That was also the first time I stood along Tumon Bay, looking at the hotel strip lined up right against the ocean. Something about that view stuck with me long after the trip ended.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐀𝐒𝐊𝐒 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓
Two Lovers Point, where the whole fence is covered in colorful padlocks left by visitors. I left one there back in 2013 and it's still there for all I know.

I've been back to Guam a few times since that first trip and every visit adds something new, but nothing beats the feeling of that very first one, still clear in my memory more than a decade later.

You probably think your personality is the big stuff. Turns out it's really just your Tuesday morning coffee routine on repeat.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐅𝐅 𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐓
I used to think identity was something you find one day, like it's hiding somewhere waiting for you. Not even close! It's built from the small stuff. What time you wake up, how you talk to the cashier who short-changed you, whether you show up on time or fifteen minutes late again. None of that feels important until you add it all up.

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐇𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐓𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐄𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐒𝐀𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆
I got honest about my own mornings, my punctuality record and one embarrassing story about a friend who waited forty minutes for me in the rain.

This one made me look at my own daily habits differently and I have a feeling it will do the same for you once you see the pattern in your own routine.

Found something on my old backup drive that I did not expect to feel this nostalgic about.

Back in April 2015 I visited Nayong Pilipino Clark more than once, back when the souvenir shop still had bamboo crafts on display and dancers still performed on stage as part of the cultural show. Everything from the wooden carvings to the woven baskets felt like it had a story behind it, and I remember taking my time just looking around every corner of the shop before moving on to catch the next show.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐓
I'm also sharing a shot from the garden by the lagoon, one of the quietest corners of the whole park with nipa huts tucked under tall trees. All three photos here are from that same visit.

The park has been closed for a while now and I am not sure what happened, but looking back at these old shots makes me glad I got to see it more than once before it shut its doors.

These photos are from a beach trip back in November 2016 and looking at them now brings back a lot of memories about a place that used to feel like ours.

𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒
Pico de Loro was not crowded yet back then and it was not the kind of place everyone knew about. We were paying monthly dues and that came with a consumable amount we could use up every month so we went a lot, sitting by the water in the afternoon and watching the sun go down behind the building almost every time.

𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐖𝐄 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐋𝐄𝐓 𝐈𝐓 𝐆𝐎
As the years passed Pico de Loro got busier and it became open to the public and not just members. Once that happened it stopped feeling like the quiet place we used to know.

Losing that exclusivity was the reason i eventually sold my share there and honestly looking back at these three photos now I am just glad we had those quiet years before everyone else found out about it too.

You know that feeling when you wake up at 7am and scroll past someone's 5am glow up video and suddenly feel like you failed before the day even started? Yeah same. I used to think mornings were something I was bad at until I stopped comparing myself to strangers on my phone.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝟓𝐀𝐌 𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐁 𝐈𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐀 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓
Turns out some people are wired to wake up early and some just aren't and science backs it up. There's a study that found over 350 spots in our genes tied to being an early riser. So if you're not a morning person by nature that's not you failing. That's just your biology. Genetics can explain a good chunk of why some of us are early birds and some of us aren't.

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐀 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐒 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄
I wrote down what really helps when you stop chasing someone else's 5am routine and start paying attention to your own body clock instead.

No green juice, no 5am alarm, just real habits that fit your actual life, because showing up in small ways beats forcing yourself into someone else's aesthetic every single time.
