Flooded Desktops, Laptops, or other devices? What should I do if my PC gets wet from flood/spills? ๐ฆโ ๏ธ
Safety is your number one priority. Evacuate away from electrical/structural hazards before saving any of your valuables and devices. Recoverability will rely on: (1) If the device was powered on while wet, and (2) How early it is brought to a technician for cleaning.
1. Do not attempt to power on or charge!
2. If possible, disassemble panels to allow better reach for temporary cleaning and drying
3. If muddy/soiled (as in the photos below), hose down with regular tap water until all mud is cleared.
4. Tilt and shake to remove any excess water from the device.
5. Bring to a cleaning technician within the next 12 hours
Once it arrives at our shop, we will fully disassemble the unit as much as possible (Down to PCB). Once disassembled, a distilled water bath will be given to loosen up any larger debris to make it easier for the isopropyl bath to pe*****te to the PCB. From there, drying (Around 12-24 hrs) and board inspections will be conducted to verify if the part is worth it to reassemble.
Typically, recommends to replace the Power Supply and any Hard Drives regardless of severity (As long as it was submerged under water). These parts are known to fail almost immediately upon liquid contact which makes it not worth to repair. The priority is to salvage as much parts as possible - Not to make it work on original parts.
Stay Safe Everyone! โโโ
