"Every Labor Day, conversations about workers’ rights come back into focus. At the center of Philippine labor protection is one principle that has long defined fair employment: security of tenure. In simple terms, it means that once you are a regular employee, you cannot be dismissed without a valid reason and proper process. It is meant to protect workers from sudden loss of income and arbitrary termination.

Job titles have become more fluid, and contracts are often crafted in ways that seem to place workers outside the reach of traditional labor protections.
