SAGANA 2025: Strengthening Resilience in the Highlands Synergizing Actions for Governance, Adaptation, and Native Heritage

WINGS TECHNOLOGY ENTERPRISE, INC. extends its heartfelt appreciation to the City Government of Baguio, headed by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, the Baguio City Council, and the Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) led by Engr. WINGS TECHNOLOGY ENTERPRISE, INC. is honored to be part of the 2025 SAGANA CONFERENCE happening on October 22–23, 2025, in Baguio City—a vital event for strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience.

At this year’s conference, we’ll be showcasing our Italian-engineered geophysical instruments, the SURICAT SR-2 and TROMINO.

🟢 SURICAT SR-2, an earthquake accelerograph, is already deployed in several key Baguio City LGU-owned buildings such as the City Hall, Baguio Convention Center (SC-3), CBAO, CDRRMO Building, General Services Office, and Health Services Office—ensuring continuous seismic monitoring.

🔵 TROMINO, a reactive tromograph used by PHIVOLCS in its 2021 Baguio microtremor survey, provides crucial insights into soil behavior and site amplification effects. In simpler terms, it helps identify how the ground beneath us might react during an earthquake—information vital for safer building design, urban planning, and disaster preparedness.

By leveraging these advanced technologies, we aim to support local governments and stakeholders in building smarter, safer, and more earthquake-resilient communities across the Cordillera region.

Suricat is a newly designed instrument (2016) for permanent seismic and vibration monitoring of structures.

It is a new 3D all-in-one accelerometer and velocimeter which is ideal for long-term monitoring of structures. Suricat has several applications in engineering geology and seismic engineering, both in the single station and network configuration.

Suricat can be installed on the ground/floor for shaking map purposes (e.g., to study earthquake effects, vibrations decay with distance and earthquake detection)

An SMS alert will be sent on each event detection. The corresponding record will be sent to the MoHo DaCo server in Italy which will serve as back-up data. The recording can be analyzed using the Grilla software.

• Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA)
• Peak Ground Velocity (PGV)

Note:

The discrepancy between building-mounted accelerograph readings and PHIVOLCS' instrumental intensity is mainly due to site conditions and structural response.

Accelerographs on buildings capture localized shaking affected by the building's height, design, and materials, which can amplify or dampen ground motion.

In contrast, PHIVOLCS’ instrumental intensity reflects ground-level shaking on a standard site condition, making it more consistent for comparison across locations.

Reasons:

Site Effects: Differences in soil type and ground conditions affect shaking intensity.

Building Response: Tall or flexible buildings may amplify motion at higher floors.

Mounting Location: Equipment on upper floors/ elevated heights records stronger movements than ground-mounted sensors.
