To our Canopy community and our rider friends,
This isn't the kind of post we ever wanted to write.
Over the past few weeks, someone has been using our store's name to scam delivery riders. They book a rider to pick up an order from us, then call the rider and ask them to pay for the food in advance via Maya, promising to pay them back on delivery. That Maya account is NOT ours. It does not belong to The Canopy Elbi or anyone on our team. The money goes straight to the scammer, and the rider never gets it back. We've also received multiple fake bookings that left riders waiting for orders that never existed.
Every one of those trips was someone's time, gas, and hard-earned money for the day. Riders are the people who make sure your coffee reaches you on rainy afternoons and late study nights. Many of them have families waiting at home for what they bring in. Masakit isipin na sila pa ang napagsasamantalahan.
We know times are hard right now, for a lot of people. We feel it too. As a small business, we're doing our best every day to keep our doors open, and our riders are doing their best to keep going too. So we're asking, from the heart: please don't do this. Let's not take from people who are just trying to make an honest living.
To keep everyone safe, please remember:
🚫Any Maya account or e-wallet number asking for advance payment is NOT The Canopy Elbi. We do not receive payments through personal Maya accounts.
🚫We will NEVER ask anyone, rider or customer, to pay in advance.
🚫We accept QR payments and bank transfers IN-STORE ONLY, through our payment terminal.
🚫Our ONLY official store number is 0969 608 9177.
To our riders: if anyone asks you to pay for a Canopy order before pick-up, please stop and message or call us first. We'd much rather get a hundred verification calls than see one of you lose money.
And to everyone who's been sending us messages, checking in, and looking out for our riders: thank you. This community is the reason we keep going.
