DID YOU KNOW?
The founders of Hybreed Philippines, Mark and Peter Donguines, were once NCAA Chess Varsity Players and 100% Scholars of De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde.
Growing up, life was not always easy. Like many Filipino families, they faced challenges and had to make the most of every opportunity that came their way. One of the biggest blessings they received was learning chess from their father at a young age.
What started as a simple board game eventually became a tool that helped shape their future.
Chess taught them how to think before making a move. It taught them patience, discipline, and the importance of planning ahead. Those lessons became valuable not only in tournaments, but also in academics and everyday life.
Because of the mindset they developed through chess, they were able to study at Pasig City Science High School, a school known for its high academic standards and competitive environment.
Fun Fact: Out of the five owners of Hybreed Philippines today, four are graduates of Pasig City Science High School.
Chess also opened doors that would have been difficult to reach otherwise. Through their performance as varsity players, Mark and Peter received full scholarships at De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde, including dormitory support and monthly allowances. It gave them the opportunity to earn a college education without becoming a financial burden to their family.
More importantly, the lessons they learned from chess became part of how they approached business.
In chess, every move has a purpose. You study the position, anticipate challenges, create plans, and adjust when things do not go your way. The same mindset helped them build Hybreed Philippines from the ground up.
From serving local teams to working with some of the biggest names in Philippine esports, Hybreed continued to grow through strategy, hard work, and consistency. In 2024, the company became part of the M6 World Championship as a merchandise partner, a milestone that once felt impossible when they were still young chess players dreaming about the future.
Today, Hybreed Philippines wants to give back to the community that helped shape who they are.
The 1st Hybreed Chess Tournament is more than just a competition. It is a way of sharing opportunities, inspiring the next generation, and showing young players that chess can be more than a game. It can teach life skills, open doors, and change lives.
♟️ Chess taught us how to think.
Life taught us how to keep moving.
Now, we hope to help others make their next best move.
