TIP renews Commitment to Sustainable Partnership in Preserving the Banaue Rice Terraces, One of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites
Every year, Toshiba Information Equipment (Phils.), Inc. (TIP) goes to the Ifugao Province (approx. 430 Kilometers away) for its Adopt-a-Terrace Rehabilitation Project highlighting the enduring partnership between TIP and the Banaue, Ifugao community. In collaboration with the Municipal Government of Banaue, Barangay Amganad LGU, and Amganad Elementary School, this year’s activities brought together TIP volunteers, farmers, students and local leaders with one shared purpose: To protect and revitalize one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites in the Philippines.
The project brought together and involved TIP adopting a terrace and the community living in the area. The local community, specifically the young students, were given school supplies and hygiene kits to promote education and sanitation. TIP Volunteers even shared proper hygienic practices and taught them the value of environmental protection. Local farmers were provided with farming tools to promote sustainable agricultural practices. TIP Volunteers, in turn, helped the farmers start with the Bachang and soil cultivation so that they can have a headstart on ploughing and planting rice.
Now on its 13th year, the Banaue–Ifugao Adopt-a-Terrace Rehabilitation Project reflects TIP’s sustained commitment to environmental stewardship and community development. Through years of continuous engagement, the program has helped rehabilitate multiple planting sites across Banaue and has supported generations of farmers, students, and indigenous communities whose livelihoods are deeply connected to the terraces. As TIP moves forward, it remains steadfast in strengthening partnerships, empowering local communities, and ensuring that the Banaue Rice Terraces continue to thrive as a living symbol of Filipino heritage passed on to future generations.
