Microsoft’s Digital Defense Report, cited in its Middle East cyber threat analysis, found that more than 97% of identity based attacks globally are password attacks. As Middle East organizations digitize rapidly, this makes credentials one of the region’s most exposed attack surfaces.

Key controls to reduce exposure:
1. Use generated passwords, not memorable patterns
2. Rotate credentials on a regular schedule
3. Enforce complexity: symbols, mixed case, numbers
4. Eliminate predictable info (DOB, names, etc.)

Notably, Microsoft also found that phishing resistant MFA can block over 99% of identity based attacks, making it one of the highest impact controls available today.
